Mt Granview (Minamiuonuma, Niigata) - 29th December 2012

Recommended Posts

First day of the season at the legendary Mt Granview.

We were planning on going up to Niigata today for family new year, but the lure of Mt Granview was just too much and so we spent a few hours there for their first day and Gran Opening. We're going up to Niigata in an hour or so.

Nice sunny weather and blue skies early this morning but it has clouded somewhat.

Not much new snow in the last few days in Minamiuonuma and with the warmer conditions the snow was a bit heavy - even at the legendary Mt Granview, of course known for some of the best snow conditions and most consistent snow quality on the planet!

The top lift was not open today - it seems that with all the bata-bata preparations for the Gran Opening today, they aren't quite ready to open that up yet. Perhaps tomorrow.

Took the point and shoot and got some shots shots from the big event.

Base has English sign, no doubt in preparation for English-speaking hordes:

With such vast expanses of terrain to prepare, it takes time

Good job Muika, I have been sitting by my computor constantly waiting for the first words and pics from Mt G

Those new state of the art "retro design" T-tray singles are awe inspiring - These new age designers are so clever making it look "shabby Sheek"

Love the spoilers too of course

It felt wrong missing the Gran Opening, as you can imagine... living so close an' all.

And I knew people would be wanting the info.

The top lift wasn't open as I said some some of the 'secrets' that are about to be unveiled will undoubtedly be up there.

It was well gnarly.

Some Gran Views indeed.

Now the season has truly begun. :groovy:

Can see why you were fat and happy there at the end.

How many people were there? Looks like may have been in the double digits!

Hope the lift lines weren't too unmanageable.

Actually this confuses me. They say '7' but in actual fact there's only 3 that move the others are (surely) 'dead'.

But I can see 8 on there.

(Lets not forget the new Gondola which obviously they haven't put on there yet).
