Metabo Oyaji 71
Ok, so it's artificial... Sayama indoor ski area getting ready for their planned opening on 10/22 (from their web page): To save electricity, they say they started making snow later than usual this year, and have mostly been making snow at night. ippy 66
oooooooooooooh! thats very interesting. I didnt even know there was one in saitama. Reasons to get a car have just doubled. Just out of idle curiosity though, but does it only open during the winter season? I was just scoping the site and it seems to open in october and close some time around March? Bit weird. Youd have thought the ONLY benefit of an indoor resort is that you can ride any time of the year. Still, it makes me happy that ive got an indoor skijo nearby for some sneaky laps
Slippery Jim 65
Last time I saw that place it was partially open to the outside, no way they could operate year-round.
pie-eater 207
Even if they did in the past, must cost a fortune to operate when it's 67 degrees in Saitama during summer. In fact, the equipment would surely melt.

Metabo Oyaji 71
Anyone remember SSARS!? SSAWS was the first place I skied again after a twenty-year hiatus. And the first place I skied in Japan.
Slippery Jim 65
Never got there. Somehow I always meant to, but just never got around to it until it was too late. A friend who went once told me it was freezing inside in mid-July.
muikabochi 208
Wish I had seen that. Impressive it was, by all accounts. I can imagine it being a fine way to spend half a day on a horribly humid day mid-summer.
