panhead_pete 27
Good point MB. Yeah that's what it is for
oblivion 5
No-one would be writing that on a page.....
panhead_pete 27
If it was part of a text I presume it would be written vertically. If not what is the correct way to write "My life, My way"?
grungy-gonads 54
I'm confused with oblivion here pete. Why would someone want to write My life, My way? What I'm trying to say is that there isn't a "correct way" because it's just a silly made up phrase. It's not Japanese, so I doubt it would be vertical.
panhead_pete 27
Hey GG It is indeed a made up phrase rather then a Japanese "saying" etc. If it was written in a Japanese novel, how would it look. For example: "This Aussie guy that collects art wants a tattoo that says, My Life, My Way". I got the below from google translate and just want to check it. I presume it should be written vertically, right to left? マイライフ マイウェイ
Tubby Beaver 209
no, katakana can be written left to right and some Japanese publications also write in the western style of left to right
BillTheBinMan 0
I would certainly go left to right. I wouldn't tattoo that on my body though!
TheOriginalMyoko 0
Yes that does sort of say My Life My Way, pete. Will you tattoo a clenched fist on there as well, complete with stern facial expression and "Gambaro"?
panhead_pete 27
Thanks LongTime. When you sya "sort of" what would be the correct way to state it?
TheOriginalMyoko 0
Who knows? I wouldn't want to guess..... it sounds pretty silly and pretentious to me.
tripler 0
You could check "My Way" on the karaoke machine, it's always on there. I sang it the other day, complete with ad libbed Japanese obscenities, but I can't remember how they spelt it. Though I can't see anything wrong with マイライフ, except perhaps a space between the two words. As someone mentioned above, vertical or horizontal isn't an issue - it just follows the format of the rest of the text. If it's a stand-alone tattoo, either is ok. Personally I think vertical would look better.
