smostyn 1
Hi guys, When we were in Tokyo a couple of months ago we noticed the yellow lines on the footpaths. What are they for? They seem to be everywhere. Its almost like it a lane marker, but nobody seems to pay any attention to them. Its like they have replaced normal pavers with lines of raised little circles. Then every now and then, they will have another line off to the road. Any ideas?
Thundercat 60
Those are for the seeing impaired. Blind people can find their way around the city by walking on them. They can feel the raised circles with their feet. They have them all over the place. Even some countryside towns (like were I live) have them. Quite clever actually.

HelperElfMissy 42
There are a fair few tactile aids on Aussie streets too Smostyn. Perhaps not as many as you will find in Japan - the huge public transport culture means it is a must for them. You will find the tactile indicators in major cities indicating the road coming up, and a lot of new developments are installing them in one form or another. This is an offering from an Aussie company They also make paving bricks for fully integrated approach
