Ok I will start this thread which was suggested by another member to post pics of what the conditions are like in the areas that we are living.

Well from where I live at the edge of Kofu!

Well here is not a heavy snow area, at most maybe get 30cm or so in one night, but then doesn't snow again for a week or more, so no danger of the fences collapsing. The fences around my house are steel framed so pretty strong actually. Having said that we had enough snow to collapse some of the trees last night, I had to drive around the fallen trees when I took my daughter to school!

The fields where I live dont have any fences either, same as Hokkaido, but some of the houses do have fences, but usually made of steel frame or otherwise brick walls.

Never seen any wooden fences much around here, I guess they wouldn't last long.

I'm guessing the issue is more the proximity of lot lines to the house. A big chunk of snow sliding off the roof might be able to take out the kind of fence seen in snowdude's photos.

stemik: how big is your property?? A couple hundred tsubo, at least?

Nice to see all the snow in various places. Been feeling like it is almost the end of the season already!
