I have really enjoyed visiting the ones in Kusatsu (well, between Kusatsu/Shiga Kogen and the one at Zao in Yamagata, though I really want to go back there to get some pics. I'm eyeing up one in Fukushima on the Bandai Azuma Skyline road at the moment and when the weather and timing come together will take that trip.
