Lukeski 0
Hi, just wondering what the best way to get to Hakuba (Goryu Ski Field's) from the airport? Just wondering if it is better to take the train to Matsumoto (from Shinjuku) then the local train to Hakuba, or is it better to catch the train to Nagano then the bus? Cheers Luke
Thundercat 60
I've always taken the train from Matsumoto to Kamishiro (the station nearest Goryu). Never had a problem but the schedule may be an issue for you as the local trains are few and far between. You can check out the train schedules here http://www.hyperdia.com/cgi-english/hyperWeb.cgi

Thundercat 60
I should add that I don't take the train from Tokyo but Kofu... makes a big difference!
gareth_oau 2
i'm heading off from Tokyo to Hakuba tomorrow. Catching Shinkanzen to Nagano (90 minutes and 7800Y) then bus to Hakuba (1 hour and around 1800y (I think))
Thundercat 60
so, Tokyo ~ Nagano then bus : 2.5 hours 9600Y Tokyo ~ Shinjuku ~ Matsumoto ~ Kamishiro : 4.5 - 5 hours 7560Y Is time or money more important?
Myoko Guy 0
It's a nice ride out on the Chuo Line from Shinjuku but takes much longer than the shink/bus option. If you enjoy train rides and don't care much about time, take the first option.
Lukeski 0
Thanks for the advice, I will probably take the slower option. Now... somebody make it snow! cheers Luke
tdk2999 0
Anybody ever took the Alpico bus from Shinjuku to Hakuba? I am thinking about doing it. Mainly because it is a lot cheaper. Price is 4700 only way, 8500 return. And takes about 4.5 hours. Any thought on this?
RobBright 35
Did the bus last year - 4.5 hours is being optimistic - took us more like 6hours and only managed to get 3 hours boarding done on the first day in ice conditions. Whilst the journey was longer than expected, I guess if you are going for an extended holiday, it shouldn't be too bad. Be warned - the buses don't necessarily drop you off at the slope - ours dropped us off about a mile away and had to get our hotel to pick us up.
