(that by way of a disclaimer as to current situation) The PO in Kutchan takes some foreign cards and has an english menu machine. While your'e in there getting some cash, take the time to call into Cafe Kaku for a cappucino (about the best in the region). Link to post Share on other sites

Yes you can get cash in Tokyo or other big centre. Yes you can get cash in Kutchan (but not everyone goes into Kutchan) But no, there is no cash machine that accepts foreign cards/spits money out at tourists in the village. Credit Cards are accepted MANY places now, but don't expect cash out. Kutchan is a very nice town, worth a visit for the day when the lifts are on wind hold, or for the "lay" day you gotta have because you are too stuffed to ski anymore. But I could be wrong. But this is for sure, some git took out all the 1000yen notes. I needed to walk past the porn rack to get to the ATM. Tough task that was. Link to post Share on other sites

HelperElfMissy 42 Posted March 20, 2008 Share Posted March 20, 2008 JA, We were regular shoppers in Kutchan - it is not easy to stock up on enough for dinner for a family of 6 at seicomart!! BUT... a lot of foreign visitors are in Niseko for a short time, do not have a car (yes I know a bus runs in peak season) and eat out each meal. They are there to be on the mountain. There were plenty of people we met up with who asked us about cash and when we explained the location in Kutchan the reaction was - oohh well...we will stick to the card then! It is worth being aware of. That said...if you need cash bad enough you will trade a few hours snow time to duck in and get some cash wont you. But really - why not just bring it?
