ssar 0 Posted February 8, 2008 Share Posted February 8, 2008 Seems an email is going around claiming this: Excerpt: "THEREFORE FRIDAY FEBRUARY 22nd HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED STICK IT UP THEIR ASS' DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY. THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT." Yes, it is all typed in CAPS - hate that for a start. That, and the dodgy way in which it is written in it's entirety, is why I will not be forwarding this email on. Personally, I am unconvinced this kind of action will acheive anything practical toward actually reducing average petrol prices for consumers. But it's easy enough to do and if enough ppl think it will actually have some effect, then I'll be happy to do it. Here is the entire transcript of the email as I received it: --- " IT HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN AUSTRALIA DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF PETROL FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES. AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES. THEREFORE FRIDAY FEBRUARY 22nd HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED STICK IT UP THEIR ASS' DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF PETROL THAT DAY. THE PRICES JUST KEEP GOING UP AND WE NEED TO STOP IT PETROL PRICES ARE CAUSING OTHER EFFECTS; AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, AS ARE TRUCKING COMPANIES. THIS INCREASES PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING SUPPLIES MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO! WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW. RobBright 35 Posted February 8, 2008 Share Posted February 8, 2008 Stupid idea - carefully think about it those who won't buy petrol on this day, and if their cars are low on petrol, will either have to buy it the day before or the day after, thus negating the whole point of this protest. More over, some of these companies affected are multinationals - so if tone country doesn't buy it, the other countries they operate in will still buy the petrol as well. This was supposed to happen in the UK but for the simple reasons above it didn't edit - also taking into account that Shell recently announced a 13.9 billion profit, the quoted figure of 4.9 billion dollars per day is simple unfathomable - it simply isn't anywhere near that amount of money spent Link to post Share on other sites
