rach 1
I don't seem to hear much about sumo these days compared to before, well apart from that guy in the news for doing things other than sumo. Is it not as popular now as it was 5-10 years ago, or am I just filtering?
Tubby Beaver 209
My gf and her family are mad for it. I'm not really into it, its cool to go and see it once, for the cultural value but its not something I really wanna do regularly
Davo 1
It seems to get a fair bit of negative publicity, including the appalling story of how a young guy was beaten to death by his stablemates this year in Aichi. The Aichi police have done their best to cover it up and the perpetrators have yet to be charged for the crime.
bobby12 0
its being taken over by gaijin which may explain why some interest would wane. also asashoryu was terrible for the sport as he was too strong (michael shumacher effect) but now a few others are coming up and it is getting more interesting again. itll be awesome when he comes back from his ban in the next tournie. Nisoko 6
I used to watch it when I first came to Japan - the Takanohana brothers and Akebono Konishiki but I'd have trouble remembering a name now.
daver 0
it might be losing popularity in japan but it seems to be gaining popularity world wide. funny any other country would see that as a good thing.
