joshnii 2
OK these formats are getting me all confused. ATRAC MP3 WMA AAC I just want to know what the heck is the best quality to rip my CDs at without all the techno-babble. Anyone able to sum it up real easy for a dunce like me? Cheers
Curt 1
I think ATRAC is the Sony one, ACC is the Apple one. The most versatile is MP3, but I am not sure the best bitrate to rip to. (320?) Good luck!
SirJibAlot 0
MP3 is the most open. Rip at 160 or higher, I usualy rip at 320, but it takes more space on your harddrive.
pie-eater 207
Aren't itunes and other downloads at 128?
minus 1
I tried at 192 and 320 - really couldn't tell any difference on my player.
thursday 1
erm, not clued up on this in any way. But I heard the less compression, the better the sound quality. And of course the more space it will take up on your drive.
SirJibAlot 0
Thursday is right, although the MP3 compression is very effecient and compresses the areas that are mostly difficult for us to comprehend in the first place. The reason that I set it at such a high bit rate is to retain the quality for playing on hi-fi headphones, car and home stereo systems. If you are just using 'bud' earphones, you will not likely hear much difference on anything 160 and up.
Hokkaidough 4
I wonder what % of ipod users only use the crappy buds you get with the player? Probably high, but golly aren't they crap?
thursday 1
yeah, they're really really crap. Hate it how they fall out of my earhole when I walk.
joshnii 2
I go for the 192 setting when converting. At first I wanted the best so tried 320 but I really coudln't tell the difference on my mobile which is where I listen to the files. I do have decent earphones but still I didn't think 320 was worth the space it took up.
