daver 0
The military seized power this morning. The BBC has been doing good coverage of it. It is hard to believe I am saying this, but in this case, the coup might actually help to serve democracy. Let's hope it is safe and peaceful! Chohk dee na Thailand
tsondaboy 0
I was checking the news today and it seems that more than 80% of the people actually support the generals.

AK 77 0
daver, did you spend a lot of time in Thailand? I had missed this till I spoke with my gf back in the UK who follows SE Asian politics closely. Your summary on both threads was the same as hers. It's kind of funny hearing the US calling for a 'restoration' of democracy! At least they'll have some (relatively less rigged) elections sometime soon
daver 0
yeah spent a bit of time there. my girlfriend is the real expert on the issue though. although there has been no official royal statement as of yet, a few of the news groups are stating the coup currently has his majesty's approval. i suppose if it didn't he would have said something by now. further approval however will certainly depend on how the military conducts themselves over the next two weeks.
