gamera 0
Last December a big quake around Indonesia and now Pakistan. Katrina and Rita hit the U.S.A. All out of control, but what can we do? Want to know what other people do for those sad events.
BagOfCrisps 24
There seems to be so many recently as well doesn't there? What can we do indeed it is a good question. The only thing I have done in the past is to donate some cash.

Ocean11 0
Avian flu is something you could probably prepare for in some ways. "Mike Leavitt recently met with Cabinet secretaries to get other federal agencies to determine their role in stemming rioting at vaccine clinics; when to close schools; how to keep gasoline, electricity, food and water supplies running; and how to manage the economic fallout." - rioting at vaccine clinics. Now that doesn't seem like a smart thing to do...
nzlegend 1
Avian flu got front pages on Time Magazine and National Geographic recently, plenty of buzz in the media about the old H5N1. Earthquakes are Earthquakes, they happen and there is nothing we can do about it. Hurricanes have been plowing into the Caribbean Coast for eons and the biggest ones were well before humans and global warming were thought as contributory factors. Short term, there have been two really bad Hurricane seasons, if it continues then the evidence for global warming influences starts to really look strong, but if the trend dies away then we will all forget and become complacent again. We cant do much for India and Pakistan other than donations. If they had spent more money on stronger buildings and less money on weapons in their silly Kashmere conflict then this death toll wouldnt be as high. since this a doom and gloom thread how about Hurricane Stan in Guatemala and Southern Mexico - whole villages wipe away in massive mudslides. Cut down the trees in the Mountains and reap the benefits in a tragic way when it rains hard....
sanjo 2
For earthquakes, apart from living in places that are not prone to them we can live in a house that is built well enough to withstand them. A lot in Pakistan apparently were not unfortunately.
