I just watched a Japanese made MTB video. In it were DH MTB courses and dirt jump parks that were obviously in Japan. It seems that they weren't using lifts but shuttles and I was wondering where these courses are? Anyone here MTB? I am have come to the conclusion that skiing hasn't crippled me enough and I need to pummel my body in the summer as well.

Skiing after the 6th of May

Exactly. I am only ever there on weekends and holidays but then again so is every other holiday maker and that is when it is the most packed of restraunts in the area. If Niigata wants weekly traffic it needs more things like Pittore to allow the type of traveler that goes on weeklong ski holidays to spend their money. They also need the local Tokyo yuppie to go there and spend more on weekends, not just on skiing. It may be the only place in Japan you can't buy Louis Vuiton handbags yet the Tokyo ski traveller (I would guess) a richer than average demographic. The problem with Yuzawa is -

Too expensive for around there yet it is the hardest place to get a seat in the area, at least from my experience. Sounds like they have their target and their pricing pretty well matched to me. It isn't really the pizza that is good but the other plates. I find it harder to beleive that an area that, at its peak, once boasted over 10m tourists in a year has such limited offerings of upscale establishments for lodging or dining. In fact, it is perhaps the grandest tale of mismanagement in the history of city planning and resort management that a resort town that is 77mins away from A -

There are a few dedicated shops that stock all year and have next year's stuff very early. They tend to be the representative dealer of a brand (ex. Akiba for Line). -

I sometimes go to Yuzawa. I would go more often if they ran some MTB stuff. I once went just to eat at Pittore -

Since Kagura is running uphill capacity to the top anyway, they should put in MTB courses on the lower half of the hill, methinks. Morning skiing and then afternoon MTB would be good... -

Yah king, Dukes on Gotes with Alpine boots are not for long hikes at all. I was most impressed that you even tried, to be honest. Dan did something like 20 tour days in a row this spring and sports touring boots with ultralight touring bindings and skis. The difference is massive. -

Water Jumps?

I suppose I should have phrased the question a bit more clearly for the mentally challenged like Muikabochi. Why would one want to hit artificial jumps when the real ones are still open? I was curious as to whether he wanted to do potentially dangerous stunts like inverts or something and therefore asked the question. -

Why would you go to the water jumps in Hakuba when the terrain parks in Tsugaike and 47 are still open? -
Water Jumps?

Oh, and you use a winter set up but old stuff. I use old boots and delamed park skis. Landing on water is surprising harsh on skis. I use old boots because being always so wet makes them stink and wears pretty hard on the liners. You wear a wetsuit, a helmet and a life jacket. In Japan, most people but ski pants or board shorts over the wetsuit. -

This is the one in Saitama. In a couple of months, after my knee heals, I will be going every week -
I don't have time to do a park rundown at the moment but I will say that Hirafu is not the place for park. There are some all park mountains in the Niigata/Gunma area that are quite good. Hakuba has the best natural terrain in Japan but is a bit short on park. 47s is pretty goodd but it can get small and crowded. I will post more later.

Looks like BROckers will have their own top sheet. The early ones being produced now are using 192 (Brown) topsheets. The BROckers look like they will have a Tibeten 'OM' symbol (I don't know what that is). -
