  1. No way! BP with hair! and cheekbones, haha just like Patrick Swayze! actually, you'd be pretty spot on with the tight fitting jeans, those shoes, etc, right now! But wait a sec, you say early 90s??? That was the era of HUGE baggy jeans!!! anyway, respect for having a night time skate pic to hand and slapping it on here! We'll have to let the PUNTERS decide who has the worst crazy arm action....
  2. hmmm... ok. You post your skate shot and we'll compare, eh
  3. No, he'd be too upset about my repeted use of the phrase 'spag bol' to refer to spaghetti bolognese. Plus he actually only shoots with a disposable camera - all this nikon digital stuff is just a fantasy double life on the internet. Self-timed was point - an artistic/phsyical/temporal challenge - doing something unlikely can be fun.

  5. ahh, got it. had to chop the last bit of the URL off so it ended with .jpg This is a solo night time self-timer skate shot. Shutter at 1/80th, flash turned down, F 3.something, 1 second self timer, pro counting skills - ten, one thousand, nine, one thousand, eight, one thousand, seven, .... More importantly, yes those are rare Nike Dunk SBs and white jeans. I know, I know, I'm so cool. Just kidding. Probably.
  6. ok, it seems to work from the small image on the first page of flickr, but not the individula photo page image...
  7. sorry Soub, I meant the dark and swarthy one, Kuma, who was getting upset with his hot blooded European temperament. right, really gotta go have that spag bol now.
  8. Kuma - SJ doesnt seem to allow using the URLs from flickr to post pics..... oh well, people can look at my page if they want to see them.
  9. spag bol. spag. bol. spastic bolognese! are you upset yet? don't tell me your Italian, as well as Canadian, British, French, etc.
  10. not too keen on natto, but i would eat a dried squid sandwich as long as it had mayonaise in it, and maybe some kimuchi too! damn, now i want one. ok, off to have my dinner. ..the unnecessary advice... along the lines of... should I buy a camera? what camera should I buy? what lense should I buy? What settings should I use? What mountain should I take pictures of? Which direction should I face? How often should I breath.... etc etc.
  11. Is it a game? I thought it was some Thanksgiving 'pass the turkey' style celebration malarkey. Seriously, nobody plays sport all dressed up like that.
  12. damn, I meant to post this over in the snow talk section as a cutting-yet-light-hearted jibe at all the people asking other people to make all their decisions for them... but my incompetance has landed it in the off topic area, where good-hearted souls will proffer genuine advice and I'll now feel really guilty (as I already have left over spag bol.) ooops.
  13. Hi SJers! I've done a bit of research but I just can't decide... what should I have for dinner? I would google JUSCO but I thought it would be easier just to ask. So... can you tell me? Thanks!
  14. Kuma, you can borrow my mtb some time if you want to hit Hakuba again... if I'm not on it, obviously, although would rather go for a ride with ya! and this is my flickr page - I haven't put much on it yet, in fact there's almost more of your photos - only c & p from SJ but all clearly photo-g credited! http://www.flickr.com/photos/7236616@N07/ There are the self timer / bult in flash skate shots though. I'm going to buy a scanner tomorrow - only flatbed for already developed shots and slide strips good enough for web / flicr. Prob either Canon 8400f or 600f. FT - looking
  15. Appreciating the CHEAP (ie. Not you, Thursday!) recommendations! I love a glass of red wine, before dinner, and with dinner (if suitable) and after with some dark chocolate (damn, there goes the dirty skater image) but often think of just sticking to beer in Japan, which is plentiful, varied and cheap enough, whereas wine is often pretty bad, over priced and limited in variety. I am not a wine buff in any way, but have explored the most popular and populated price point of 1000 to 2000 yen in the UK - where you can find wines that at least resemble their varieties, are soft and easy
  16. Kuma, what flash were you using this winter? Which ones have you used in the past? I'm just starting to work out the semi-occult world of flash - in theory, but need to get practicing (most skating happens at night in Japan). I shot a roll of 1600 speed colour film, pushed one stop, indooors at a live gig on Friday, so looking forward to seeing how that turns out. Mixture of 28mm and long lense at around 150mm to be less intrusive. Might be all crap though, as needle meters were way hard to see in dark viewfinder, so lots of guessing of exposures - good practice! Going to
  17. RE: SB800 - I'm interested too, Thursday, but Kuma replied first, so I'll defer to him (age before beauty, and all that! ha ha.) Kuma are you in hakuba this weekend? My keitai is fine AFAIK, but often has no signal in my house...I'll mail you my home number.

  19. Bad news for one of my cameras: I have broken my Fuji finepix S20 pro (top of range digital non-slr). It was left in mt possession by someone who got a smaller digi because I would use it more.... ...and I have broken it within a week! It was in it's padded case in my genkan.. er.. on the floor.. and i think i tripped over my bag and booted it. The screen and viewfinder just show black, and taking a photo produces white with abstract green blob. It was 6man camera.. oops. Of course all metal Pentax KX is fine. So... might have to get anther good quality digi

  21. 45 I think. but I was out for a few weeks with nose being rebuilt and separated ribs (just slammed hard on them skating on sunday - but think it put them back where they should be). Next season, let's 50ing.
  22. how big is a carabiner??? about 7cm?! I would like an A4 size or bit bigger print... that's plenty big enough for me. Just wihout cropping and from the neg - i did this with a couple of b&w skate shots from home and they came out really nice, cost about 1000 yen each.
  23. Oh, and the 1 and a half head high drop off the end was stomped too! For the doubters out there. Kuma's a pro you know, he wouldn't put out any photos that weren't landed! Or would he??? Ha ha ha. Ahem.
  24. Kuma in real film picture shocker! Read all about it! That's a nice composition you had there - the contrast of the snow and branches in the mid groud is really nice. I like the people on the chair in the background too. It felt so good riding all the way off the end! Better than tree-hugging the branch in the ribs before that one! ha ha. The other (on topic) shots are fun to see too - nice FT jump shot. But obviously I'm not in them, so they are all rubbish! ha ha ha.
