  1. I got kicked off the electoral roll some years ago cos I was moving house too much! (thanks SJ!)
  2. this arrived in an email from a friend In honour of the impending election, please circulate this to your friends: Spooky Men (a nice bunch of Aussies) performing "Vote the Bastards Out" recently in London (sorry, didn't know how to embed the vid and didn't have time to go hunting around to find out, if someone wants to do it, go right ahead!)
  3. I never use my credit card in an ATM machine, I don't do cash advances. Anyway my statement arrived and none of the fraudulent charges appeared on it, so that's great.
  4. BP's wedding on the 9th? Where is it? if I'm over that way I might even be able to gatecrash!!!! 10th evening could work. 11th at some point will be heading back to Tokyo. They eat meat, I eat seafood.... thanks for the tips....
  5. It's the usual for me - I'll know just beforehand if I can go.
  6. Thanks guys. Don't get me wrong, they definitely very into the culture and temples, but being a little, er, larger than me they're not as physically comfy sleeping on futons as I am (one sister came here before and didn't sleep very well when on the floor at my place. Of course they can layer 2 futons for extra comfort and I'm still trying to talk them into that but we'll see.... So yes, they want to visit temples but you can definitely get all shrined-out if you see too many of them! Thanks for the countryside tips. A ride into the hills sounds nice. (They wouldn't be
  7. My sisters are coming to visit in early December and will be spending two days in Kyoto. Hopefully if I'm not working I'll come along with them. What do you localz recommend visiting? Any good onsens? nature stuff? good (but not too pricey) places to eat? and of course they'll get to gion etc... After a couple of temples they'll be happy to see other things... They're stupidly staying in the miyako hotel, they didn't want to sleep on futons! Oh well, it's their loss..... If I go I'll take a room in a ryokan somewhere, if anyone has any nice recs that's also appreciated. Thank

Did you use the card for online purchases at internet cafes or just from your Mac at your home? No idea. I'm assuming it was randomly generated numbers that hit home. Something I forgot to mention earlier: a few years ago my parents got a new debit card in Oz specifically for online purchases, they'd never used it at all - but somehow someone got the number and tried to us
  9. More likely they didn't want to take too much thunder away from the iPhone. 32 should suit me fine. I have 30 at the moment with 9 free. Yeh, technology - everything's relative! 10gig hard drives used to be expensive too!

  12. They take care of all the Japanese ones, they can't do foreign ones.
  13. samurai, that's tough, I have read stories about ID theft in the US and it's a nightmare for the person who was thieved. My new card arrived today. It's still a mystery, at least one thing was definitely purchased online - at iTunes music store in US. In which case surely the would have had to use the correct name on the card? I'm not sure about the other things, if they were in person or not.
  14. What's your card company, Dumstick?
  15. Damn, that's a real hassle. I would have been out for near 20 man if I'd had to pay for that stuff.
  16. Anyone ever have anything like this happen? Yesterday I was having trouble trying to change an order on Amazon.jp, for some reason the card was giving me hassles, I thought there must have been an issue with refunding cos I'd cancelled a book on an order. Today I get a phone call from DC card in English, asking me if I'd made a bunch of transactions (which I hadn't): Jetsomething (or somethingJet) - apparently a budget UK or eurpean airline, iTunes music store in the US And - Apple computer in Japan . They apparently had tried to call me on the 19th Sept or so but neve
  17. Looks like the other carriers are doing the same thing. Softbank and AU are, go check it out.
  18. Found out this is for a 2 year contract. If you cancel before then you are charged something like 9000 yen. (maybe that depends on which contract you get). Probably not a big issue for most people changing over.
  19. excellent news, thanks! typical that you have to apply and they don't publicise it very highly...!
  20. I have a friend who works for a company that does T-shirts for visiting acts. Are you wanting to know a source for Tshirts? hmm, I'll drop you a PM....
