Tell me - Shiga Kogen or Hakuba?

From what I have heard, Shiga is the place to go for some quiet skiing and wide expanses, and Hakuba is the more party fashionable place. Going to try both this season! -
My first season, but I am going to go to some smaller places that aren't the main ones and hope to avoid the crowds that way.

Yeah in japan. In Tokyo, first winter here so excited about going out.
