Yes all of Kagura is closed as is Gala Yuzawa and Yuzawa Kogen and Naeba.
The Yuzawa Now page has been updated.
-
Heavy snow and strong winds are forecast tonight and into tomorrow, which MIGHT mean that parts or all of Kagura might not be able to be open tomorrow.... thought I'd just mention that - I have just update the Yuzawa Now page if you want more.

Two seasons ago we put together a gallery of some of the mad snowfall that season. Here it is if you haven't seen it:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/gallery/index-snowy-japan.html
While things may not be quite as mad this year, there is still a lot of snow around - well, where I am at least.
I thought I would create a thread with some mad snow photos - let's see if this season we can challenge two years ago.
If you have any please do upload (link above) and post. (Feel free to post ones that have been on the forums in other threads).
I'll start off with a few:
-
On this map
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/japan-ski-town-maps/yuzawa/yuzawa.html
Look at A1 - here it is:
The phone box is on the right hand side edge of this image, on the right hand side of the road in about the same vertical position where it says "R17"
We should really add the Emergency Telephone Box to the map.
-
It is about 20m from the turn off road to Gala Yuzawa on Route 17.
In between Yuzawa IC and Ishiuchi Maruyama.
-
You're welcome.
And you know, believe it or not, we never want there to be any 'issues' on here.
Anyhow, it seems that the place where some of those photos were hosted was for one reason or another on a blacklist due to security problem we had in the past and so were being automatically blocked. Or something like that. (Nothing to do with the photos themselves or anything like that).
SJ#3 has found a way round it and so those pics are now appearing (and they look good!)
Of course any photo uploaded to SJ will be fine
Thanks!

Yes sorry perhaps I should have mentioned that. Kagura will most definitely be fine, and a fair few resorts will surely be open then - Naeba, Gala Yuzawa, Kandatsu, Iwappara to name but a few. They are also easy to get to as Naspa is only a few minutes bus ride from the station. Things like that are probably mentioned in the reports.

Hi
Check the Yuzawa Now reports:
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/daily/yuzawa-now.php
(you can see previous years daily reports)
NASPA is town level and it closes in early April (I presume after the days you are staying). Normally it would be ok I think, but last year it was closed by April. There is more snow this year though. Expect spring conditions and probably very mild almost warm weather.
Keep your eye on that report above for daily updates.
-
Yes, but - personally - I would see something like that quickly dropping us deep into that political soup that SJ#1 mentioned in the article.
-
Yes thanks, we should have a few of those coming up soon actually.
-
Sorry perhaps my comment was misunderstood.
What I meant was - resorts often don't want to say anything other than 'the official line', so interview like that would be dry and not include much of interest, it would just be what they want people to hear. "No comments" on the questions we might really want to ask.
Does that make sense?
We would like to do such things, but I think we'd have to find someone willing to talk!!
-
SJ#1 is the one with most of the contacts at resorts, so I'm not really involved in that. But I do know that it is unfortunately not easy to get something that could be a "Feature" without it coming across as simply a promotion. There are lots of 'off-record' comments and info, but we can't really publish those!
-
In that base of people involved there nationalities involved are: UK, Japan, Australia, US.
-
No.
Thanks for all the feedback (here and by mail). We're open to the idea of doing something like this again in the future answering more questions.
-
Interesting Journey Man.
Facebook stuff - I have no idea.
Second point is interesting, I don't know why that is happening and this kind of thing is not my bag.... I'll pass it to someone who's bag it is tomorrow. Thanks.
PS Why are you typing with your thumbs?

A new interview with the creator of SnowJapan has been put online.
http://www.snowjapan.com/e/features/interviews-andrew-lea.html
"Last month I sat down with Mr Andrew Lea, otherwise known on the Forums as SJ#1, and more importantly the creator of SnowJapan and still the man in charge of the operation. Over the years we have had many people ask us about SnowJapan and I took this opportunity to ask him a few questions about the site, how it got started, it's history and future.
SJForums (David), February 2008"
