We have 1cm or so of snow to report on the slopes around town this morning!
Earlier on, it was snowing here though at the moment it has got much brighter and breaks in the cloud - and not snowing here anymore. A cloudy day is forecast with a high of around 4 degrees.... and perhaps some sleet turning into snow later on tonight but tomorrow should once again be just cloudy.
All resorts in the region are open as planned this morning.

Well, yesterday we had the light rain until later on as the temperatures dropped (as per the forecast). For a while it cleared up but then later on in the evening snow was falling in the town. Not much has stuck and this morning just a sprinkling on cars and around town and at the moment it is light wet snow/sleet falling with fairly decent visibility - just the tops of the surrounding mountains in clouds. It is still snowing properly at Gala and Kagura areas.
It is a fairly cold morning and currently hovering around +1 degrees and there's a bit of a moderate wind at the moment but I would not expect that to affect the operations at resorts this morning. The latest forecast is telling us to expect these snow clouds to clear up around lunchtime and the rest of the day to be just cloudy... perhaps another sprinkling of snow overnight and more cloud tomorrow.
It is worth mentioning that this season we still have good snow cover on the slopes at resorts around town - the last few years places had been struggling towards the end of the season.... right now though surely resorts will be able to all be open until the end of the month and beyond. Expect low resorts around town to close end of March or the first week of April, with Gala Yuzawa staying open longer and of course Kagura through until Golden Week in early May. We will post info on confirmed plans and dates on this page as we get them.

As the forecast said, we couldn't escape the rain yesterday - starting late afternoon/evening. Heavy at times.
It has been very mild indeed overnight with one weather report I am looking at saying that temperatures rose to around +11 degrees overnight in Yuzawa. Interestingly, the temperatures should gradually drop during the day right through into tonight and it will hopefully end up being quite cold, hovering around 0 degrees, and snowing. The forecast though is for rain this morning and that will hopefully clear up early afternoon - and then light snow late tonight and into tomorrow.
The mountains around town are visible with clouds on the top and it looks like visibility is fairly poor up at Kagura this morning where they are reporting a temperature of +5 with light rain. While it is still fairly windy, not as much as yesterday and it seems that all the resorts in the area should be open as normal today.

Yesterday did turn out to be a fairly clear day - and warm. It's warmer still early on this morning and already at 7am it is 5 degrees with a high of around 11 forecast for later on in the day. It's going to be a warm one.
We have had some fairly strong winds overnight and more likely continuing during the day. This is affecting resort operations and it's affecting resorts... Gala Yuzawa is closed today because of the winds. Tashiro is also closed, leaving just the Mitsumata area of Kagura - up to and including the Kagura No1 quad lift - open.
It looks like the rain is still on to be falling by the end of today, and perhaps heavily at times. Then hopefully sometime tomorrow, it will be falling as light snow.

Good morning from Yuzawa. Yesterday saw some changeable conditions but in the afternoon we saw some rain/sleet/light snow - depending on altitude, it didn't quite dip as cold as perhaps we were hoping - in the afternoon.
Overnight it has just been cloudy and this morning it is a cloudy start to the day with just a slight breeze. Currently the temperature in town is around 0 degrees. It is fairly bright and there is a good chance that things will clear up and the day may end up fine and sunny with a high of around 5 degrees.
Tomorrow the forecast is for sunny weather from early on and temperatures rising to around double figures. Looking a bit further forwards, rain on Monday night and then hopefully back to some snowy conditions from Tuesday for a few days. Not a huge amount of snow forecast for that period but we might be in for a few cm here and there.

And cloud it is. Yesterday the sun was out and it was a fine day and warm with it too. This morning there is a lot of cloud around and interestingly the temperature seems set to drop as the day progresses. Right now it is 5 degrees but it will likely drop as the day moves on and be around 2 degrees by evening - and we can perhaps expect some sleet from the afternoon, if we are lucky snow higher up.
Tomorrow perhaps a sunny day and then we are set for some warm temperatures from around Monday and a chance of some light snow after that. So we really do seem to be set for some changeable conditions over the coming few days.
The winds have calmed down and so today all resorts seem set to be open as normal this morning.

After the few days of winter this morning sees another change in conditions.
It is sunny early on with blue skies all around. Fairly strong winds early on and unfortunately that will once again be affecting resort operations with Gala Yuzawa closed and operations limited at Kagura (up to the Kagura quad from Mitsumata with Tashiro closed as things stand early on).
Right now it is 3 degrees but it may rise to around 8 degrees during the early afternoon so we are back to the milder weather today. Currently the forecast for tomorrow is cloud with a chance of sleet/snow later on, with fine weather forecast for Sunday.
Have a good weekend!
