This morning things have started off fairly bright and even some blue sky remaining earlier on. No new snow to report in any of the resorts around town.
While the sun is still trying to shine through some grey clouds up there as I write this, it does feel like clouds are moving in and indeed that local forecast still tells us to expect some snow today. Probably only light snow, but snow all the same.
Tomorrow still looks like it is the better bet for clearer conditions, though any snow that arrives today might well linger into tomorrow morning. If you get the impression that the forecasts are all being a bit vague right now, you would be correct! Difficult call.
Snow should be great whichever weekend day you choose though.
A look at the different forecasts for Monday doesn't look too good though as there seems to be a good chance of rain, though happily that looks soon to be replaced with snow.
Have a good weekend.

Well, that wasn't expected. Snow early on this morning, but by 11am there was blue sky over Yuzawa and by early afternoon there were hardly any clouds remaining up there at all and it had turned into a beautiful blue-sky day with the sun shining down. Everywhere around town looked amazing - with all the heavy snowfall we have had, it's all stacked up everywhere and looking very picturesque.
Snow conditions out on the slopes were great today too as expected. Really great snow, and it should be the same for the weekend as well.
After the forecast being so wrong today, I hardly want to mention what it has lined up for tomorrow but... the general consensus seems to be clear early on but clouding over with the chance of light snow. If you are coming to Yuzawa for one day over the weekend I would choose Sunday as it looks like it should be a clear day like today. Disclaimer - don't blame us if it isn't! Looks like it will be getting milder as well Sunday/Monday. Hopefully not too mild as we want the snow conditions to keep good as long as possible of course.
Have a fun weekend wherever you choose to be.

Yesterday was a strange one weather-wise. We went from heavy snowfall early on with poor visibility to much clearer conditions in the afternoon and with much less wind. Those braving the early conditions were treated to much better conditions and some great views with the added dramatics of lingering clouds in the afternoon. Obviously differing depending on where you were. By evening though we were back to snow and in some places it was really coming down last night, the result of which is another 25cm of snow on the top of my car this morning.
There are signs that things might be clearing up - even some blue sky over Naeba early on this morning - and I'll post an update to this Yuzawa Now page this evening with an update and the latest for the weekend... right now looks like we might even get to see the sun, especially on Sunday.

Good morning and it's another snowy one in Yuzawa. There was probably about 25-30cm of snow on top of my car this morning and it continues to fall now. Visibility isn't too good down in town, never mind on the slopes early this morning so it may well be one of those days when it's difficult to see where you're going.
Kagura is reporting 50-60cm of snow and stronger winds up top with Mitsumata to the Kagura No1 pair lift and Tashiro to the No1 quad open there. Some lifts at Naeba are not open as yet though it looks like they intend to be open as normal for a weekday. Other than that, all resorts around town seem to be open as normal. There might be moderate winds up on the slopes today, though they don't seem to be causing problems around town.
We might just be getting towards the end of this prolonged snowy period. Tomorrow looks to be calmer with less snow forecast and we might even get to see some sunny conditions over the weekend. It would be a welcome break from the snow actually, and give locals a bit of a breather as well - or at least time to try and move the snow around.
For those out on the resorts though - snow should be excellent, there's lots of it and lots of it will be untracked. Just take that little bit of extra care in these conditions!

| The snow clouds did move in mid morning and it has been snowing since. Not really a lot to report as of now, but the local Niigata forecast tells us here in the Yuzawa area to expect 'up to 60cm' of snowfall overnight before 9am tomorrow morning. So sounds like they are pretty confident of snow overnight then! See you on the other side.

A bit unexpected this morning really. While high up at Kagura they are saying that they got 10-20cm of new snow since yesterday, down in town there's really nothing to show and while we did get some strong winds during the night, it all seems fairly calm right now. There's even a bit of sunlight shining through from time to time but to the north some much greyer looking clouds are apparently moving in and we are due for that snow to be with us soon. Heavy snow, according to the updated forecast. It perhaps just got delayed a bit on the way. With the forecasts telling us that the peak was going to be today and tomorrow, it just seems a little odd..... but my guess would be that it should be snowing before very long.
Wind only seems to be affecting some operations at Mt Naeba this morning.
I'll post another report this evening with an update.

Since the report this morning things cleared up quite a bit in and around town - late morning into early afternoon we even saw sunshine and some blue skies over the area. It was also rather mild and rose to around +2 degrees at one point. Cloud moved back on in fairly quickly though and we are back to light snowing this evening. The local forecast tells us to expect up to 20cm of snow overnight and for tomorrow to bring with it some potentially strong winds and more snowfall.
It's also increasingly looking like generally conditions will clear up somewhat starting from Friday.
