  1. I wear prescription sunglasses, with Bolle goggles from Costco. Didn't have any issuses with fogging, and they fit well. (Although I only skied for 4 days, so not a long test)
  2. Starting to get a bit colder here in Toksuka, actually put a pair of long pants on yesterday, first time out of shorts since last winter. (not working means no need to "dress up" during the day)
  3. blueyonder, I would recommend hiring a Subaru wagon with AWD, just make sure it has snow tyres. Better than a softroader, but cheaper than a 4WD. Most Nav systems have the ability to navigate by phone number, so as long as you know the number of the resort you are heading to you should have no problems. I can't give any advice/info on accidents, I don't drive in the snow enough to have seen any. I'm sure those on here who live in snowier places can comment with more accurate ideas than I can.
  4. With a lot of help from my wife, found the video of the caves first and worked back from there. I was quite hard, only found it because my wife wouldn't give up, she was sure she had seen the cave pictures somewhere so was determined to find it.
  5. Correct, sorry I couldn't come up with anything harder, but I wanted to use a photo I took, which didn't give me many options.
  6. I did a heap of research about car navi systems prior to buying our car last Feb. I was looking at slightly more expensive models though. One point to think about, do you need the system to be in English. A cheap car navi system may be no good if you can't understand it. The only English option I found was to use Garmin hardware with a map from these guys http://uud.info/en/map/ I didn't go this route myself, ended up with the free one that Subaru were offering for ordering the car before Dec.
  7. Last weekend we made it into a 4 day weekend and headed to Kustatsu to escape the heat. Once you leave the highway there are electronic signs giving the current temperature, it was so nice to see figures starting with a 1. After a day at Toy World for the kids we went halfway up the mountain, (the top was clouded over) and I walked down following the main ski run. The next day we drove to the top, and joined hundreds of others in walking 20 minutes to see the lake that is the source of the onsen water for the town. Below are a few photos. I tried where possible to take the same shot I
  8. We have 3 drink machines and 3 food machines in an alcove of the lobby of our apartmant building. (our apartment is directly above the alcove, but to walk, about 50m) 1 directly opposite the apartment entrance, 3 just up the road about 100m and 3 down the road 200m. Don't have to go very far for drinks or chocolate
  9. I was at the Yokohama drivers licence building this morning getting a Japanese licence, and while we were waiting my wife was on the Internet. She mentioned that the final subway attacher had been caught, and pointed out the wanted poster. The poster had three faces on it, two covered up, then 30 minutes later someone came around and took the poster down. I sat there wondering if the bosses there had done it themselves, or if at that exact time someone in every police building thoughout Japan was taking posters down.
  10. If you buy the professional version you should have no problem, just make sure you get the OS DVD.. I have three laptops here, all Windows professional, two in English, with English keyboard and one in Japanese, with Japanese keyboard. The two with English OS can input Japanese charactors no problem. Note, all three laptops had the OS installed using the same DVD, just different peoduct keys and options at start.
