  1. I bought a pair of these a few years back - Sorel Conquest they are fantastically comfortable, warm and waterproof. I even wore them to drive for 2 hours and catch a 4 hour flight once when my bag was too full!. I accept the laces make getting in and out a bit more effort, but I havent managed to slip over in them, and the insulated sole ensures warm feet if i want to stand around watching an event - theyre rated down to -40 degC for me they are overkill, but i have used them on 4 trips now and they still look and feel like they are brand new (apart from the comfort factor - no br
  2. writing it phonetically - how does Happor-nay look/sound? (and with an almost silent 'r')
  3. I had heard somewhere that if a mortgage is foreclosed in the US, then when you buy (at around the advertised price) you also have to pick up the outstanding debt in addition. Is this correct?
  4. hopefully all the hard work today will keep the body in shape, but I have my doubts! My respect to all those who are "old" and continue to show up the younger generations. Snowjunky, you are right, body is one thing, but the finances?
  5. ippy, perhaps its that retailers (especially in australia) are finally realisiing that they have to stop whingeing and actually compete on a world scale, otherwise their customers will just source it elsewhere, or buy a different brand that is less restrictive. The australian market used to be an island monopoly for retailers, but thanks to the internet, the consumers are forcing some rationisation? If this is the case, then good on Burton for doing the right thing, and hopefully others may follow
  6. I'm wondering how many of these people aren't gainfully employed? I know tattoos are expensive, so how often are you and I paying for it?
  7. wearing boots in an aussie summer? I hope you have some excellent odour-eaters installed
  8. Ive been using hopshopgo.com as a freight forwarder, brilliant service. HSG will also: - buy stuff on your behalf if the seller wont accept your CC - repack into a smaller box if there are freight savings to be had - hold stuff for a month and receive multiple consignments from different sources, then pack them all into one box for you also find their freight rates are very competitive and for example cheaper than backcountry.com offers
  9. As if I'd know! LOL Well... I know a heap of people are working in the mines. I know WA is growing like a weed. I know mining is HUGE. And I know anyone worth a shizz in the industry is heading up there to take advantage. But that's about it. big wages, but a 3 bedroom house in Karratha rents for about $2500 per week, doesnt leave much of your big earnings left. Most these days are FIFO (fly-in-fly-out) for 2 week rotations but thats a pretty ccrappy lifestyle
  10. you probably dont want to read this, but I've lost 7kgs since New Year. My pants are probably too big!
  11. don't just eat salad, do some exercise - youre pre-season ski legs will love you for it!
  12. cartoon from the West Australian newspaper this morning!!
  13. aussie retail prices are so expensive that overseas shopping has been my base case for the last few years. For example, I recently bought some snowboard boots: either $650 in Oz, or $260 (including freight) ex US if I see the sale os no risk, then I'll buy overseas. I'm just about to buy 4 tyres for my car ex US
  14. in australia, there's a threshold of A$1,000 for the goods (not including freight). If the goods exceed that value, the aussie govt then adds in the freight value, and hits you with typically 10% import duty, then compounded with a further 10% GST (VAT), plus some fixed costs
  15. GG, when you import stuff personally, do you need to pay any additional taxes or duties on arrival and if so, how much and is there a threshold before these taxes are applied?
  16. ahhh, ive never been on an overseas holiday. I dont drink, dont smoke, rarely go out to restaurants. i just choose to spend my hard-earned in different ways that others might not approve
  17. at the other end of the scale though. You want a computer, or a flashy new tv and save up to pay cash for it. By the time you have saved enough, the item you wanted is obsolete and superceded. the new one is better, but more expensive, so you decided to wait, and save some more...until it too is obsolete and you never actually get around to owning one!
  18. Murphy's Law states that if I was to choose an answer randomly, then I would always get C/
  19. I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to watch design. I prefer the expensive swiss chronograph style Mine:
  20. I have no issues with lying, if the circumstance requires it - for example, I'd be a terrible parent if I chose to set the kids straight about Santa on day 1. In other situations, I might manipulate the truth a bit, if needed, but I wont resort to lying. My sister recently bought a car, and asked me what I thought (and i'm a car fan, she bought some sort of shopping trolley). firslty i asked her if she wanted to hear what she wanted to hear, or did she genuinely want to know what I thought. She asked for the truth, so I told her I thought it was overpriced and ugly as sin G
  21. if she'd worn her boarding boots to the restaurant, her ankle would probably be fine right now!
  22. Well, she starts her story with "I broke my ankle whilst on a snowboarding holiday..." but I chip in with more of the facts.... ...including the bottle of champange, the walk to the restaurant at 7.30 in the evening, and the imaginary pothole!!
