  1. Ah christ, looks like im dealing with a dick. Quote: Can you tell me how this was paid for through PayPal. I am getting hit with a fee that does not occur when form of payment is through instant bank transfers. This is the only form of PayPal transaction I accept as stated in the auction. Also,as stated in the auction, I will not ship overseas and will feel more comfortable sending this in a box to your CA address. I would like to proceed with rejecting your payment, then have you repay as instant bank transfer so I dont get hit with this fee. Let me know how you would like to proceed
  2. wheee! could have scored my tracker (1) at $175. Now to see if the dude has a fit because i gave him my US shipito address (because he only ships US), but asked him in a message to ship it to me at my korean address Ah the pains of being a gaijinz. Oh and get a job in furano. Why the hell wouldnt you? Id do it if i could. Actually, come next october, gizza job in hokkaido cheers.
  3. nope. Im confirmed only up until the 12th. Trying to get Hokkpowtours to arrange an avi course on the 11th and 12th which means if thats done, i can (2500 accomm failure - ie cant contact bloody ramble), skip out of niseko altogether and head to furano fully armed with avi knowledge and having partaken in my share of bogans for 2011. That still leaves me 13th jan to the 4th feb to sort out. I got a place in furano all set up (for 2000 pn), but that lack of park really bothered me It could still be well on the cards though! Can get accom in niseko down to 3000 for brunt of it, but it goe
  4. yep yep, thats how i rationalised it too And currently trawling through every craigslist city with teh same 6 words: bca pieps ortovox avalanche beacon backcountry Its a tortuous affair, obviously i try using things like craigsnationwide or just google searching it and sorting the listings, but im convinced i keep missing them Theres a really cheap tracker 2 at backcountry right now i believe, but my cheapness may be a blessing thats saved me plenty of cash over the years, but aye, t'is also a curse. "no cheap enough!"
  5. its almost impossible to find here. I asked one of the biggest retailers here (ronin), located at the heart of snowboard street and they said the following: "im sorry, i dont know anyone here who can sell a transceiver. But for a shovel and probe, you can just buy one at your local hardware store in town". So there you go. I did find a pieps dsp on gmarket (imported via amazon), go on guess how much? Guess? $1,000. I kid thee not. So i figure ill just see if someone here has one sitting about and have it sent to my mate in hamamatsu for her to bring teh gear u
  6. I'll be riding out of the gates with a beacon, probe, shovel, compass and map if for no other reason than it gets me in the habit Hopefully the avi course will be much better in making sure i get in the MUCH MORE useful habit of spotting potential avi prone terrain. I guess we're all in charge of our own levels of safety. Best thing though is to make sure im not endangering someone else at the end of the day
  7. haha! foiled! I was gonna email actually and ask you if its okay to post up about it, but figured it might take a while to get a response. Do you mind if i use my obviously hard to detect code for a beacon? Its all in the name of safety!
  8. significant other. either that or ski organiser, or snow officiator, or sudden oenomania. Probably significant other though.
  9. lets just hypotetically say im in the market for a beacon, would anyone (also hypothetically) happen to have a tracker or a d3 or better yet a pieps dsp, ortovox 3+, barryvox pulse, or tracker 2 thats just taking up FAR too much space in their hypothetical house and would be in the mood to hypothetically get shot of for around $200-250 for the latest gen or $150ish for the tracker/d3? If you hypothetically also happen to have a shovel a probe, and a cheap backpack that can carry a snowboard, that would be great too.
  10. hopefully just got your guys (well HokkPowTours) to try and pencil in dates for an AST B course around 11th and 12th january. Just got to find a cheap beacon, a cheap shovel, a cheap bakpack, cheap probe (and some cheap trekking shoes and cheap poles and/or cheap splitboard) and im all set! well, that and cheap food, and a cheap map, and a cheap compass, and a cheap course on learning to not get lost reading a map, and a cheap snow checking kit, and a cheap everything in the whole damn world that i havent thought of... oooh! a first aid kit! and something for insulation :|
  11. $200 on the 157 funkink/ 157/161 project green by the way at evo right now with coupon code. Im still waiting for cyber monday to decide. I realised this year im really after avi instruction and buying my safety gear. Might have scored a decently priced BCA tracker, but my plane ticket just jumped up $150 so swings and roundabouts. Evo had a great deal the other week for BC gear, but the second they dropped the price on the funkink, the deal on the tracker ended so if i bought them both on black friday it would have worked out more expensive I cried. PS. I only have 3 decks but h
  12. you got your pow board yet? Camrock sucks anyway, its like rocker, and its like camber, only its a crap rocker, and the camber isnt primed enough to load it... Its the worst of both worlds. Go and buy something with R+C/c2/flying v/gullwing instead. Or better yet, buy a pow stick for furano. Seriously, think what you could add to your quiver instead for that cash instead of buying two sticks that do pretty much the same thing (only the machete wins because it has a proper FK style rocker for your fields of pow, and if there was one thing my scope was pretty awesome on it was pow... well a
  13. youre pricey! i can make my own snow pit for much less. Anyway, ask me in feb how much i paid and if i enjoyed my place. I liked it last year enough to go back there again! I just need their email and im all set
  14. (last year it was 2500 - AND it was during chinese new year!) ye of little faith
  15. i did i did, but its annupuri. I wanna base at hirafu. And cheap needs to be 2-3000 per night. Hells yeah baby! im serious! And yes i maybe do need a higher paying job, or maybe less cheap, but either way, that place what i mentioned before but not promoting it has accommodation around 2,600 p/n for 20-30 days, so hoping it has space But if not, im gonna need to get in contact with the other one. I guess i got their phone number, but natch its a pain in the rump from kankoku. Needs must though
  16. Thought it would be rather rude to start another niseko thread for this one: Accommodation options in the place. Yeah i know! ive looked at the snowjapan list. Its frankly hideoulsy expensive!!!! What? the korean won is worth nothing in japan (and its probably worth much less after today!) My extraordinary wages are turned to monopoly money the second i land at new chitose! DONT JUDGE ME!!! So er... I remember last year the two places rumoured to have the cheapest accommodation was mellow and ramble. Ive sent mellow an email, but cant find ramble's email address. An
  17. Niseko wins. Ive given up on furano. So my plan is this: arrive 8th Jan, leave 5th Feb. take an avi training course as soon as i arrive and learn how to do a dig a proper snow pit for testing. take a back country tour as soon as i complete the avi training. Spend a week getting my stamina up with little hikes. Spend next fortnight riding fields of pow safely(ish). Try not to die and observe all the avi warnings.
  18. nah, its the dude from the tourist office. unless of course that is you... Aside a couple of inevitable hangover days, i reckon ill make it this season. The annoying thing last season was that i found my legs about day 12 or 13 (a lot of my trip last year was spent travelling to resorts and on hangovers which is why im basing myself this season)... and about a day and half after finding them, it was just about time to come home. Not making that mistake again. Mike, sell me on furano pretty please. I still really want to do furano and tomamu and kamui. For fun and diversity they m
  19. the lovely dude at furano got back to me with my silly questions. Heres what he said: Quote: There is no park at Furano. Tomamu has the best park and half pipe in Central hokkaido. 1.Can i use my season pass at kamui? need another ticket for Kamui. 2.Do you have an early bird season pass deal like at tomamu? No early bird season pass deal. There is a late one from Feb. 3.How do i get to Furano by bus from Chitose?Bus or Train 4.Is there an avalanche safety course like teh ones run at niseko? No avalanche safety course. 5. Hope the build up is getting you excited!!!Heaps excite
  20. i used to do the hamamatsu to kamishiro (goryu/47) run. NB. Hakuba station if youre at happo, tsugaike, ikenotaira et al (buses run from there), and kamishiro if yorue staying at hakuba goryu/47 Heres the parts you need. Osaka ----->Nagoya (shinkansen) Nagoya -----> matsumoto (ltd express) matsumotooooooooo ------> shinanomachi (then walk across the platform to a waiting train) shinanomachi ------> hakuba (local) if you're cheap and want to local it or use the 18kippu like i used to do, its a little different: Osaka to kyoto (special rapid) kyoto to ma
  21. Ps. A bottle of wine. oooh, the capita thing was pretty much because if theres three brands i know inside out its bataleon, neversummer, and capita. Bataleon and neversummer are RIDICULOUSLY expensive, where as capita is nice and cheap. Its also because theres a dude called spenser who i literally trust on EVERYTHING. He is the tech nerd to end all tech nerds he cant write all that well, but the guy knows everything about snowboarding there is to know, and whats more, he's happy explaining the same thing a thousand times or answering the most banal easy question with long detailed expla
  22. to save me posting another massive text ill bullet point my answers this time - I think its fair for me to claim authorship. If only because its got my name in the title. - The me that started off writing the guide with tentative opinions and unsure of his right to even embark on this ridiculous project is still laughing at how bad a snowboarder he is in real life. So dont worry, hes definitely grounded. As nietzsche said: the belly is the reason man does not take himself for a god. - So dont worry dude, i laugh at my own ridiculousness too! and not just about snowboarding.

Will have to work hard on my skiing mogul skills (this season's goal) before even thinking of trying a board on them, though. (Will also have to work on being able to, um, stand up on a board.) In the end, price will probably be the
