Niseko is better than furano because:

Gates

Nighta

Beans and timtams in the combini

Bigger terrain to hit up.

It gets SNOW.

Apres kills it.

Furano is better than niseko because

Minimal chance of Bogan infestation.

Super cheap

On piste has decent terrain and lines to play on.

No one is there.

Bus to KAMUI!!!

the lift system is about as good as you get... well, on the not furano side. Ropeways suck.

If you love easily accessible off-piste and deep, dependable powder Niseko is hard to beat. If you want more of a Japanese experience, prefer skiing on-piste and like a bit of sun now and again then Furano rocks.

When we went there, I think I only saw a handful of westerners. It was great as a first Japan snow experience, and probably why I go to Shiga Kogen instead of Hakuba or Niseko. What's the point in travelling halfway round the world to a different country/culture, just to see the same thing you do at home.

Nah. I'm almost sure you won't get waist deep lightest powder snow on the planet anywhere else.

Furano

Pros

Dry consistent powder, averages about 10cms per day.

Town is close to accommodation

You can walk to supermarket

There is a bit of off-piste if you know where to go.

Nice people, good village vibe.

Not crowded, not heaps of gaijin.

Trips to Kamui, Tomamu, Asahidake.

Cultural events on Sunday nights.

Cons

You dont get lots of deep powder.

Niseko

Pros

Heaps of powder, consistent dumps nightly of about 20cms.[sic]

Lots of accommodation available

lots of bars if you are into that sorta thing.

big resort, great tree runs..

Lots of nearby resorts such as Moiwa, Rusutsu, etc..

Cons

Lots of bogans

bars are sausage fests (so they say)

Crowded

No supermarket, Kutchan is a bus ride away, which is annoying. plus Kutchan is not that exciting.

Seicomart gets very crowded

Furano vs Niseko

Niseko gets heaps more snow, has more terrain and is a lot larger.

Furano has drier snow.

Furano has more of a friendly small town vibe.

And Niseko is heaps more crowded.

the end.

p.s. I think GN is probably right about Niseko having the most consistent powder.
