It's certainly colder this morning so the signs are still on for some decent winter like conditions today and tomorrow. We'll just have to see what nature brings and if it delivers. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Happy Chinese New Year! There are quite a lot of people here in Nozawa celebrating, and I hope you enjoy yourselves. The top areas from the resort this morning report 10cm of fresh snow, with 5cm on Hikage. Just a thin dusting down at base. It's all a bit... mild feeling just at the moment. Over the weekend we are told to expect the warmest temperatures of the year so far especially on Sunday and there may even be rain at higher elevations as well. We can only hope that won't happen. Before then though, is that the chance of heavy snow I see on some forecasts tonight? It looks like it might be. Let's see, I will fill you in on that tomorrow morning. Right now, lots of cloud, some blue sky here and there. The webcam seems to show early morning foggy conditions on upper areas. Temperatures remain mild but the resort is reporting 20-35cm of fresh snow across the mountain this morning so fresh to play in. Might get a bit more this morning but it will likely ease and tomorrow we're expecting sunshine. And warmer conditions. Then on Sunday... warmer conditions again. With a good chance of rain. Yikes, that doesn't sound so good. If you are hitting Nozawa one day this weekend I'd definitely be choosing Saturday myself. As we get into next week, it should start to get colder again though for now not a whole lot of snow on the forecast. Morning from Nozawa and some more snow overnight as this run of winter like weather continues. 10-20cm on most of the mountain since my report yesterday morning with more of that happening during the day yesterday than overnight. A mix of conditions this morning with light snow at times, cloud and even a bit of sun as well. Can't seem to make up it's mind what to do. Maybe it's spring trying to take back control. Looks like it will win out as well come Sunday and onwards into next week with some very warm conditions on the forecast. Fingers crossed it will stay cold at least until tomorrow so we can have a good start to the weekend. The forecast for today is snow maybe easing off later this afternoon, but snow clouds should be sticking around through tomorrow as well. Come Saturday weather conditions expected to start clearing up with sun expected on Sunday and beyond. It seems next week will see spring return. This morning sees the start of the return to spring. It's cold to start off with and there's some cloud hanging on early morning, but there's also blue sky and the forecast for today is clear and sunny with a high temp. of around +5C later on this afternoon. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Ahhh late March, don't you just love it (....when it gives us snow!) According to the trusty resort folk, some upper areas of the mountain have been on the receiving end of up to 50cm of snow in the last day! Just think how warm it was last week and then re-read that. Mad. Still a decent amount lower on the mountain as well giving us a refresh we can only have hoped for. The sun will be back with us by tomorrow so we need to make the most of these fresh conditions while they last. Expect it to warm up by the weekend. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It's snowing folks! Snowfall during the day yesterday with 5+cm across the mountain and some more on top of that overnight. Cold too with the top Yamabiko area reporting a temperature of -8 degrees. Put those extra layers back on! Snow continues to fall now so let's hope we can get more cm before it eases off as we enter tomorrow. It looks like once this has passed, we can expect spring conditions to return fairly quickly and into next week. But this morning is a good chance to get that feel of fresh once again. From next Monday, lift tickets at Nozawa get cheaper for the remaining chunk of the season (until 6th May). For example a one day ticket for an adult will be reduced from 4800 yen to 3700 yen, and for a child from 2200 yen to 1700 yen. After that fun return to winter like weather, today sees the start of the return of spring. It's keeping cold this morning but from tomorrow especially things are going to begin warming. Can't realistically expect any snow in the coming week and the next few days at least should see lots of sunshine. Lots of people in Nozawa this morning to enjoy the conditions at the moment. Snow is falling this morning right down here to village level with about 5cm and counting - this is the first time we have had more than a sprinkling here in the village this year and it is of course great to see. The resort as of 8am are reporting up to 20cm of fresh snow on the upper slopes and around 10cm on lower to mid areas. That's not enough to open today of course but let's have more fall today and see how things shape up tomorrow morning. Alas, the forecast doesn't give much hope of snow beyond tomorrow morning and at least into the first half of next week, so today is all important. I'll bring you the latest tomorrow morning. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . 2pm update: As the snow continues to fall, from 2pm today the resort is opening the Rinkan course to connect the Paradise course with the Nagasaka Gondola. For now it is just to use as means to get back to base. The resort also seems to have the Yunomine pair and Mizunashi lifts and associated courses now operating/open. Original morning report Now this feels more like it! It is a good morning indeed in Nozawa. We have good cold wintery conditions with decent snow falling from the skies right down to the village. Yes, after an odd mix of weather yesterday, last night the snow started and we have it on the ground here now with it continuing to fall. Snow is forecast for the day today, maybe a break in it during the day tomorrow but more fresh snow due again by tomorrow evening. At the time of writing, no word on any changed to what will be open today at Nozawa Onsen. I would not be surprised though if more of the resort opened as more snow falls though. Check with them if you are going to be here. Should be fun up there this morning. Be sure to wrap up well though and don't get too excited - visibility is limited. Great stuff. Loads of snow please! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa and we have a fresh blanket of snow with the resort reporting 15cm of fresh snowfall on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas this morning. Colder too as well. It is not snowing as I write this report but snow is expected on and off during the day today, with temperatures not rising that much over freezing. Currently it is -1C here at base. Should be some improved conditions up top this morning then and they are set to improve more in the coming days with decent snowfall forecast for tonight and into tomorrow and hopefully a bit beyond as well. The cold is going to continue as well with low temperatures tomorrow in particular expected. I am hoping that my report tomorrow morning will bring you some exciting snow news. In the meantime, a lot of people are expected in Nozawa this weekend. Early starts recommended especially as the whole mountain is not yet open. Until tomorrow. Let it snow!
