Morning from Shiga Kogen where it still feels fairly wintery and there is 10cm of fresh snow to report since my report yesterday which should freshen things up a bit but remember there'll be that icy layer beneath the thin layer of new snow. It has been quite cold as well this morning. At the moment there's clouds and there is some sunshine in places. Any more snow due? Yes, it's still there on that forecast so we can hope for some more fresh on the way over the next few days. So a fairly decent layer to give us some fun this morning and the sun has been out early on as well so early risers should be enjoying themselves this morning. It is forecast to get more cloudy during the middle of the day though and we might get some more snow falling before my report tomorrow morning. And tomorrow too. Yes, please! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday was a very fine day with blue skies to enjoy and nice cold conditions. It's warmer this morning with some resorts even reporting temperatures in low positive numbers. Snow is falling this morning, but it's coming from the south and with the milder temperature is on the heavier and wet side, so not top grade Shiga Kogen quality really. Still, I'll take 4cm of this kind of snow than none (or rain, heaven forbid!). The forecast still tells us to expect heavy snow tonight with it easing off tomorrow morning... There's a generally foggy kind of feel to things here in Maruike just at the moment and visibility is poor. This season really is proving to be an odd one by all accounts - in most regions of Japan too, not just this part of northern Nagano. Generally difficult to read and know what's going to happen next. It will be interesting to see how the rest of the season goes. Obviously we still have less snow than usual so unless that builds up significantly in February, resorts are going to be struggling to remain open as long as they want to this year. Let's hope that February comes out and brings us the goods. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Just to keep the 'odd season' theme going, yesterday we got some... rain/sleet... falling here in Shiga Kogen. Oh dear. Luckily by evening it was snow once again and this morning there's a nice new layer of it to help us quickly forget and be happy. It's on the heavier side once again but a decent new layer is a decent new layer and adds to that base - all important stuff. It's colder this morning I'm happy to report too and temperatures should be continuing to drop back to where they should be over the next few days. Good. Next snow? Perhaps tomorrow night into Monday. Should be colder too, so perhaps the snow will be of the lighter and fluffier variety. Anyway, I'm off out to enjoy myself. Hope you can too. Until tomorrow. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday was a relatively 'warm' one (for Shiga Kogen) with lots of fog around at times. By evening time it was colder and clearer but... it just... doesn't feel like late January weather. Hard to believe that come tomorrow we are already into February. Earlier on this morning snow was falling and there's a cm or two around base areas and it is colder. It has gradually been clearing but having said that, light snow is still falling right now here in Maruike area.... but the sun is shining down as well! It looks and feels like it might clear up, but who knows. The forecast says that snow clouds might be with us today and tomorrow to be followed by clearer weather around Tuesday and Wednesday. With another 25+cm of snow to report since yesterday, it's a close to perfect morning to be strapping on the board(s). What more can I say? (Other than once again the snow depths at the resorts aren't budging much. Just ignore that!) Oh yes the other thing is about the forecast which I mentioned yesterday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's difficult to put a number on things this morning but my best attempt measuring in a few places is.... 45cm of fresh snowfall. Whatever the numbers, basically we have had a heavy load of snow delivered to Shiga Kogen since yesterday and it's still falling now. This is the kind of deep snow that really livens things up and is of course extremely welcome to see. Yey! And suddenly (or perhaps not so suddenly, but glaringly) the official snow depths at a few places at least seem rather under-reported. Anyway, fine times. Lets hope we can avoid the nasty looking rain that most places are due for on Saturday - and maybe even up here as well. It wouldn't be fair to get all this lovely snowfall and then get rained on. Tomorrow the sun will probably be out which should make it an excellent choice of day to be skiing or snowboarding. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing! And some of the resort areas reporting 20cm of fresh as well. And oddly there's a bit of sunshine coming through my window at the moment. Hold on, no, it's gone. Back to grey cloud cover and the snow falling... Yes, it is a good morning. I mentioned a brief glimpse of the sun - the forecast does actually tell us to expect some of that later on today and so perhaps it's the first signs of clearing conditions. A friend mentioned to me last night, we have just half a month left of 'the full mountain' (ie. all of the resort areas) being open - come April some areas will be closed, though of course some resort areas plan to open right through into May. Most of the resorts don't seem to have adjusted their official snow depth numbers, but that's par for the course! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yuki! Yes, it's snowing this morning here in Shiga Kogen. And we always like that. Only silly people wouldn't like that. I'm calling it at 5cm so far and it is still falling. Pretty decent snow as well... great to see it and no doubt even greater to get out and slide down on it. Snow is due for the day today and tonight as well and so I am hoping that tomorrow I will also be able to bring further snow news. The snow clouds will probably finish up sometime tomorrow and then after that sunny weather is forecast around Wednesday and Thursday, when it will also get a bit warmer. It's keeping cold today though so I am going to get out there and enjoy it. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen and there's 1cm of snow to report and light snow was still falling earlier on, but has eased off now. Leaving us with just mainly cloud for the moment and hints of blue sky in places. Sunny skies are forecast for tomorrow and perhaps temperatures might hover around zero during the day, but the forecast still teases us with the prospect of some potentially decent snowfall come Wednesday night and through into the weekend. Let's hope it is more than just a tease! And the snow of the previous days means that it should be a really good morning to be out there. The new snow I am posting this morning is from yesterday since I posted the last report, there was no more overnight. Not much snow on the forecast now, perhaps a bit tomorrow night, so we might get a few sprinklings at times between the sunny skies that are likely in the coming week. Good morning from Shiga Kogen and there's more snow to report this morning. 4cm outside my place and I am hearing people talk of anything up to 10cm this morning. And the snow isn't due to let up just yet either, perhaps continuing into tomorrow. It is snowing now but it's quite bright and visibility - here in the Maruike area at least - is pretty good. There is 1 week left for all of the resort area of Shiga Kogen to remain open. Apparently, the ones planning to close would do so even if we got 50cm in one night. Hardly likely of course, I wonder if that did actually happen they might be tempted!
