Good morning from Shiga Kogen and I'm happy to report just over 8cm of snow round the back of my place and I hear resorts reporting 10-15cm on the slopes as well early on. Nice. Would be great if we could get into the pattern of getting that and more on most days, but there you go. We'll take what we are given. It is continuing to snow now though visibility here in the Maruike area anyway remains fairly decent considering it's still coming down. I even saw some blue sky over by Ichinose a little earlier. Light snow seems to be what the forecasts are telling us to expect today. As for tomorrow, I think there's a chance of sunny skies before we get more snow from Tuesday. Looks like it might be strong winds as well around Tuesday and Wednesday along with particularly cold temperatures. Bring it all on, I say. For this morning though the overnight (modest) refill should be fun to play on. Hope to see some of you out there. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Fine weather since yesterday afternoon here in Shiga Kogen and this morning starts with clear skies and sunshine. Still since my report yesterday there was new snow falling and so that's the 'new snowfall' that appears in the report this morning. Today will probably be fine for the whole of the day but we'll be back to snowfall tomorrow. Tomorrow night is supposed to be the peak of this particular delivery of snow, so let's hope there's a lot. You may have noticed on the forecast talk of rain on Saturday. It does look like large parts of the region at least are going to be experiencing unseasonably warm conditions. We really do want to avoid that (obviously) so all offerings to the snow gods should be submitted now! After the relatively fine weather over the last few days, light snow has started to fall here this morning and just a cm of so on the ground so far. Snow is forecast for today of course and tonight too - possibly getting heavier later in the day - though it probably won't last long into tomorrow. After some clearer skies, more snow is forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. Not much else to report really this morning - it's looking quite busy out there this morning. Until tomorrow when I hope to bring news of fresh snow. It was strong winds and snow storm time overnight but this morning we're just waking up to just a thin layer of new snow... somewhat disappointing. It's a calm morning now. Less cloud, more blue sky and the sun is shining. A lovely morning actually. I was talking with a few people last night who have lived their entire lives here in Shiga Kogen (or down below in Yamanouchi town) and they were all commenting on how they have never experienced a season like this one before. It truly is unique! (Let's hope it stays that way!) The way that generally temperatures have been higher than normal with a few sudden dips into mid-season cold here and there... 'not normal' is the best way to describe it. In this season of odd weather, how will the rest of February and March treat us? Forecast: snow tomorrow into Wednesday, and then at the end of the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's going to be a fantastic morning. A cold start. Blue skies. The sun is out. And the snow that we got yesterday, all 18cm or so of it. Wind was blowing it around and so it's going to be more or less than that in places but that's my best number based on a few nearby observations. More sunshine is forecast for tomorrow as well and getting a little warmer for Saturday, but we should be seeing more snowfall later on in the day on Saturday as well. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It almost feels like mid winter! Some good snow falling here this morning and there's just under 15cm of fresh light snow on the ground. Yesterday calmed down and we ended up with a fine day. But it was back to snow and this morning nice big snowflakes are still falling. Like I said it feels like mid winter, oh yes. Please continue. Regular snow (perhaps on and off) is forecast for the coming days and through into early next week so we can look forward to a decent end to the month of February. Could we be in for a good last third of the season? The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Loads of snow! There haven't been many times I have been able to say that this season but here we are on 1st March and I'm able to report a significant amount of fresh snowfall. And a proper amount too - my friend was saying close to 50cm outside his place. Northerly winds have been blowing snow around and I've taken a few measurements and going to record 35cm as the number today. Great stuff. And it's still snowing. Once we get past today, clearer skies are forecast and not a whole lot of snow lined up either. For now though, today should be GREAT! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . After that lovely start to the day yesterday, here was are this morning with a much more winter-like picture. Good and cold and snow is falling. A perhaps somewhat disappointing 5cm of snowfall compared with some other nearby areas this morning, but it is snowing now though less than a bit earlier and it looks like there's a good chance of it easing off this morning. The forecast for the coming 6 days is looking pretty decent with regular snow. The heaviest snow looks likely to be around Friday and then later on Sunday into Monday. Anyway the sun us out again this morning and all is calm. It's clearly warmer this morning as well but hopefully things won't warm up too much in the sun. Tomorrow should see a return to cold for a few days along with a good chance of quite a bit of snow, if we are to believe the forecasts. Bring it on, I say! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Light snow falling this morning here in Shiga Kogen. Again, it's wetter snow than we might hope for at the beginning of February, but we'll take it. I love the phrase that Kumanoyu are using for their 5cm of fresh this morning 'puchi-powder'. Puchi usually translates as small/petite, or in this case I suppose 'a bit'. Kawaii! Anyway, yes a bit of new snowfall on the slopes this morning. Light snow was falling here in the Maruike area just before, but has eased off now though I imagine that snow is still falling in parts of the region now. It's not expected to last though or not beyond this afternoon anyway. Lots of cloud and 'gas' around so making visibility limited in some places. It looks like there's a fair chance of some sunshine tomorrow and Wednesday and the next snowfall after today due sometime around Thursday/Friday. Come on February - deliver the goods please! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Very early this morning it was clearer skies but right now snow is falling and there's just about 1cm on the ground so far. It's actually coming down quite heavily just right now but that is not expected to last with clearer weather on the forecast. It is keeping very cold though which is of course what we want. The forecasts have been wrong a fair bit this season though, so you never know what will happen these days - or so it seems. Talking of which they tell us to look forward to some heavy snow later in the day on Friday and into Saturday. Perfect for the weekend, so lets just hope that is happens. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's another calm-after-the-storm kind of morning. Snow storm conditions yesterday with snow falling and strong winds blowing it around and so a number this morning is difficult to pin down but generally not as much as I was expecting there to be anyway... still, conditions should be better this morning. It got really cold overnight and it's a cold morning too. But there's blue skies above and the sun is shining. There's more snow due later on today so expect things to cloud over sometime either this afternoon and this evening and snow to start falling; and perhaps a decent amount of snow to fall tomorrow. If we get snow tomorrow Thursday should be great with clear skies and sun currently forecast.
