Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 2cm
Snowfall at base this season 245cm
Posted on Monday 8th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
Yesterday we had mixed weather conditions here in Nozawa.
As can often happen here - snow falling higher up on the top Yamabiko runs with sunshine and part blue skies on lower slopes. The resort reported 2-6cm of fresh snow at 3pm yesterday afternoon (since the morning report), but there's no further cm of snow this morning.
This morning the clouds are gone and it's clear and sunny from early on - it's going to be a fine day, just as we were expecting. Very cold early morning too though the sun should be warming things up this afternoon.
We're still expecting to be back to snowfall tomorrow as well, so if all goes well we'll need googles and extra layers tomorrow.
The heaviest snow is expected tomorrow night though it should hopefully be continuing into Wednesday as well.
Official snow depths:
Yamabiko: 165cm
Uenotaira: 130cm
Hikage: 80cm
Nagasaka: 65cm
Karasawa: 55cm
New snowfall as reported by the resort since yesterday:
Yamabiko: 4cm
Uenotaira: 6cm
Hikage: 2cm
Nagasaka: 2cm
Karasawa: 2cm
