The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . It's another snowy day here in Nozawa Onsen. Light flurries continued overnight producing 5cm up top and 10cm in the village. It looks like today will be yet another nice day with plenty of fresh tracks on offer and minimal crowds. Yesterday saw great conditions across the mountain. Morning snow showers gave way to partly cloudy conditions. Lift lines were almost non-existent and the snow remained in great shape throughout, especially in the trees. The sun remained until just before last lifts when the snow clouds once again blew in obscuring the top half of the resort. The current forecast looks like a real mixed bag. We are expecting sun, snow, rain and cloud over the next four days or so. Snow showers are possible for most of today and tomorrow before clearing to fine weather on Thursday. The predictions for Friday and Saturday are very warm temperatures with a freezing level of over 2000m. Some rain is possible during this time from an unwanted SW airstream. Luckily cold temperatures and snow are expected to arrive by Sunday putting a stop to the temporary spring-like conditions. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Sorry for the delayed report today guys. Everyone is wondering what the snow is like and I can assure that it is quite fine and hasn't suddenly all disappeared. We woke this morning to passing snow showers that had dusted the resort with 2cm of fresh cover. Since first lifts we have had a further 6cm fall up top. It is now sunny and partly cloudy in Nozawa Onsen this morning and it has been a great day on the mountain with minimal crowds. Some were saying yesterday was the day of the week and they were mostly correct with extremely cold overnight temps and fresh tracks on offer. Unexpectedly the sun had broken through the clouds by midday and it was fine for the duration of the afternoon. The sun yesterday had formed a crust layer in certain areas. Looking ahead the forecast suggests we should see light snow overnight before conditions clear again tomorrow with fine weather expected. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Just a bit of snowfall since my report yesterday as it eased off and no snowfall overnight. And this morning we have blue skies above Madarao with just a bit of cloud hanging on here and there. More of the mountain is open with more lifts operating (see below) both at Madarao and Tangram. Still not fully open, but on the way. That should be helped along by some more fresh snowfall due tonight and hopefully into tomorrow morning with the next snow after that on New Years Eve. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Welcome to winter. It actually feels like winter this morning. And we haven't been able to say that much so far this December. 26cm of snow to report, with the resort reporting 30cm on the slopes. Sounds good? Looks good. And I bet it feels good under skis and boards too! Madarao this morning is open with the Number 1, Number 2 quad lift and Number 5 lifts operating along with 5 courses. It looks like Tangram Ski Circus is also opening from this morning with the Number 1 pair lift planned to be operating. It may be limited still but it is a start and with snow forecast to continue for today and then pick up again later on tomorrow night (after a lull in the daytime tomorrow?), there's more to come and hopefully soon more of the resort areas opening. Visibility is also very limited out there this morning so take care. And have fun! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Madarao have suddenly decided to open this morning. The 15-20cm of snow on the slopes since last night no doubt helped, and it was actually more than they were expecting.... hence the 12 noon opening today. Hurray! Thank you Mr Santa-san. But... more please! It's going to be the Number 1 lift again moving, so limited and the lift tickets will cost just 1000 yen for adults and 500 yen for children. More snow is due today, tonight and tomorrow as well so fingers crossed that tomorrow more of the mountain might get to be open. The Tangram Ski Circus is not opening just yet it would seem. After the festivities and frolicks of last night (I'm just presuming there were lots!), it's a clean slate once again as we enter a new year. And what better than 20cm of fresh snow to help us celebrate. And clearing blue skies as well. And some good cold conditions to keep it all in check. Nice. The early morning clouds have quite quickly started to make an exit leaving us with what we have now and it should be a great morning. There's more sun than snow on the forecast for the next 3-4 days and from tomorrow in particularly temperatures are going to go up and venture into positive numbers - expect a high of around 4-5 degrees during the daytime. Mid week should see a return to colder conditions. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . It has turned into a beautiful morning. There's new snow to report. Blue skies and sun to report. I wish it were snowing, but if we can't have more snow just now this will do for this morning. And I certainly would not call it 'best condition' as I am hearing from elsewhere - if what we have now really is is 'best conditions', what do you call it when we have relentless snow over a period of a week and truly deep conditions? After some more snow that is expected tonight we can expect clearer skies again and (alas) a trend towards milder conditions. This is not just here but in the wider area (and lots of Japan in general?) Anyway, torchlit skiing and firewords should end the day today as we proceed into January. Here's to us delving deep into the goods that we know winter can provide - we have honestly only seen a hint of them so far this season... See you on the other side. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . There is some fresh snow to report this morning from Madarao. Just 4cm outside my place and Madarao Kogen is this morning stating 5-10cm of fresh on the slopes. Better than 0cm! It is colder as well this morning. There's quite a lot of cloud around but also some blue skies. More snow is on the way with the weekly forecast still tempting us with the promise of snow tonight and tomorrow, as we get into the weekend and Sunday/Monday as well. I like the looks of 'moderate snowfall' on the forecast; 'heavy snow' is even better. Let's hope it happens. For now that new snowfall has probably filled over a few patches but of course not enough to transform the situation. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Now this is more like it! A lovely morning with a sea of clouds in the valley below us, some blue skies above us,....and 20+cm of fresh snow on the ground. Yes, I'm extremely pleased to be able to report a good new layer of snow this morning. It actually all came during the day yesterday rather than overnight. Lovely. With the early morning weather as well it should be a really great morning. I am going to be out there, that's for sure! The even better news is that more snow is due later on today and into tomorrow and that snow around Monday as well is still on the cards. If we can just get a fairly decent amount over these next few days, there'll be lots of happy people. Monday is a national holiday in Japan so it is long 3-day weekend coming up, and traditionally one of the more popular for people heading to the ski resorts. So it should be busy. And I expect there to be lots of people who have been waiting for fresh snow as well. Hope you can enjoy it. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . 10-15cm of fresh snow is being reported by Madarao this morning and the day has started with light snow continuing to fall though that isn't expected to continue for long. Clearing up is the more likely. It's keeping quite cold this morning so the conditions out there should be pretty good this morning. And there will be less people around now that we are on the last day of the long weekend. Especially by this afternoon expect things to be something more like a normal weekday, and then of course we'll be back into the normal weekday routine from tomorrow. Can't help but feel looking at the forecast that it has been somewhat 'downgraded' in terms of likely snowfall in the next week. Hmmm. Anyway, good for this morning! The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . There is another 15cm of fresh snow here in Madarao and things are starting to look much improved. With snow continuing to fall today and more forecast later tomorrow and into Monday, it's feeling exciting for this long weekend we are just starting. With more snow hopefully it will not be long before the Tree Run courses will be able to open (they currently remain closed). Should be good this morning though. It's the Fire Festival at Madarao Kogen tonight, starting at 8:30pm with sweet sake and tangerines (!) along with other things going on. Fireworks at 9pm followed by torch-lit skiers putting on a display down the slopes. The second photo today will give you an idea. Come on more snow!
