The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . There's a fog down here this morning. But I can see that up higher on the mountain it's clearer and I can see a mix of cloud and blue sky at the moment. The early morning fog lower down will probably quickly disappear leaving us with a fine morning. Yesterday at 3pm the resort was reporting 1-5cm of snowfall during the day bottom-top and this morning just another small dusting higher up. That's where the numbers below are coming from just in case you were wondering. I'm liking the look of the forecast for Saturday. 'Heavy snow'. We'll have some (lots) of that please. We have of course seen that before but it hasn't quite happened in as dramatic a way as we would like so let's be cautiously optimistic! It should actually be snowing from tomorrow through into Sunday. Here's to a snowy late week and weekend. For today though, enjoy some sunshine. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning to you from Nozawa. A bit of snow since yesterday with 5cm up top and it's another quite cold morning. It looks like we're set for a generally cloudy day today, though even now the sun is managing to peek through the clouds in places. So perhaps it might clear up somewhat. Hopefully staying cold at the same time... It should be cold overnight tonight again and tomorrow we are probably going to enjoy some sunshine. Sporadic light snowfall is still there on the forecast over the coming days but I wouldn't expect much from it - think of it as a real bonus if we do get much. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 40cm Snowfall at base this season 720cm Posted on Saturday 22nd March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We were hoping for snow of course, and we had been eyeing up that forecast on the site from a number of days ago.... but I don't quite think many people actually believed that really we would get quite as much snow as we have got. Check this out: Yamabiko - 29cm + 40cm Uenotaira - 25cm + 25cm Hikage - 25cm + 25cm Nagasaka - 25cm + 25cm Karasawa - 20cm + 25cm The first number is how much the resort reported from yesterday morning up until 3pm yesterday afternoon. The second number is the overnight number since 3pm yesterday. So between 45cm and 69cm! So that means that since yesterday morning Nozawa is reporting a whopping 69cm of snow on Yamabiko and 50cm on Uenotaira. Unbelievable! Could not have asked for more than this. And what's more, the sun is out this morning. Blue skies. Nice and cold to start the day. If this is the last main snowfall of the season which is pretty likely, a warm up is due this week, then we will have ended it in style. I really must get my gear on as quickly as possible and get up there to check it out! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 680cm Posted on Friday 21st March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday was one of those best left forgotten wet and rainy affairs, but again I am able to bring much better news to replace that image in the form of fresh snow this morning. 5cm down at base, a bit more in places. Actually the resort has the lower slopes (8cm) down for more than Yamabiko which is interesting. It is still snowing now and should hopefully continue doing so for the rest of the day. When tomorrow arrives, we'll probably see sun and after that it's sun/cloud mostly on the forecast into next week. As we get into next week, a real warm-up is expected with double digit temperatures down in the village. Fresh snow is of course going to be in short supply from now, and so we really need to make the most of this. Mostly poor visibility out on the slopes, so care needed. Today is a national holiday and so the first of a 3 day weekend... all lifts moving this morning as we are on weekend mode already. I'm just looking at the forecasts and over the next week that looks set to be what we can expect - sun and more sun, a bit of cloud maybe. Temps into the double digits every day here at base. So nice and warm and settled conditions. Note that from today until Wednesday, the Yamabiko B course plans to be closed to the public as there is a competition being held. The resort hasn't updated that info on the live page just yet but I presume that is going ahead as planned. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . I bring very good news. Yes, Nozawa has been on the receiving end of a good dump of fresh snow since yesterday and the resort is reporting an impressive 70cm of snow up on Yamabiko. Surprises are great when they are nice snowy ones. :) What's more, it's enough for the resort to spring (or is that winter) into action, as they have announced that Nozawa will be opening tomorrow morning. It's snowing nicely down here at base as well with at least 20cm on the ground and the way it's coming down that will soon add up. Snow forecast for the day, perhaps easing off tomorrow and then maybe not much as we enter the new week. But Nozawa'll be open by then and we'll be able to enjoy the first runs of the season. Nozawa Onsen will open at least some of the top Yamabiko runs tomorrow. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Nozawa. That planned opening date of Saturday 29th November fast approaches, though there's no snow to report just yet. No need to worry, conditions have generally been turning rather winter like but while it's a cold morning here now (currently just around 3 degrees) it's sunny early on. Changeable conditions forecast. What kind of winter will it be like this season? Hopefully one of those bumper seasons where we have so much regular deliveries of powder that we almost don't know what to do with it all. That would be nice, one of them please Snow Gods. Looks like there's some fantastic views from the top of the mountain, some low lying cloud remaining in the valley. But generally nice clear blue skies. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . The resort reporting 10cm of snow since yesterday and there's a nice fresh snow look to the trees this morning, helped along by the sun shining down on them. Still some cloud hanging around from yesterday and overnight, but it seems to be clearing and we are in for a day of fine and sunny conditions. Milder temperatures as well today and tomorrow though rain clouds will be moving in tomorrow in the village. Hopefully snow on the upper slopes. Later Friday into Saturday is still looking very promising with heavy snow in particular forecast for Saturday along with very cold conditions. Fancy doing some cross country? Nozawa is opening it's Uenotaira cross country course from Saturday... apparently about 5km of it. Tickets are 1250 yen for adults and 800 yen for children for the Gondola and course maintenance. No news on other course areas of the resort opening yet, but I would expect more open at the weekend. That's just a guess though, will bring any real news to this report in the coming days.
