Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 680cm

Posted on Friday 21st March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.

Yesterday was one of those best left forgotten wet and rainy affairs, but again I am able to bring much better news to replace that image in the form of fresh snow this morning.

5cm down at base, a bit more in places. Actually the resort has the lower slopes (8cm) down for more than Yamabiko which is interesting.

It is still snowing now and should hopefully continue doing so for the rest of the day. When tomorrow arrives, we'll probably see sun and after that it's sun/cloud mostly on the forecast into next week. As we get into next week, a real warm-up is expected with double digit temperatures down in the village.

Fresh snow is of course going to be in short supply from now, and so we really need to make the most of this. Mostly poor visibility out on the slopes, so care needed.

Today is a national holiday and so the first of a 3 day weekend... all lifts moving this morning as we are on weekend mode already.

Official snow depths:

Yamabiko - 330cm

Uenotaira - 260cm

Hikage - 160cm

Nagasaka - 145cm

Karasawa - 100cm
