Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano
New snowfall at base 40cm
Snowfall at base this season 720cm
Posted on Saturday 22nd March 2014 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here.
We were hoping for snow of course, and we had been eyeing up that forecast on the site from a number of days ago.... but I don't quite think many people actually believed that really we would get quite as much snow as we have got.
Check this out:
Yamabiko - 29cm + 40cm
Uenotaira - 25cm + 25cm
Hikage - 25cm + 25cm
Nagasaka - 25cm + 25cm
Karasawa - 20cm + 25cm
The first number is how much the resort reported from yesterday morning up until 3pm yesterday afternoon. The second number is the overnight number since 3pm yesterday. So between 45cm and 69cm!
So that means that since yesterday morning Nozawa is reporting a whopping 69cm of snow on Yamabiko and 50cm on Uenotaira.
Unbelievable! Could not have asked for more than this.
And what's more, the sun is out this morning. Blue skies. Nice and cold to start the day.
If this is the last main snowfall of the season which is pretty likely, a warm up is due this week, then we will have ended it in style.
I really must get my gear on as quickly as possible and get up there to check it out!
Official snow depths:
Yamabiko - 385cm
Uenotaira - 320cm
Hikage - 170cm
Nagasaka - 165cm
Karasawa - 110cm
