It was strong winds and snow storm time overnight but this morning we're just waking up to just a thin layer of new snow... somewhat disappointing. It's a calm morning now. Less cloud, more blue sky and the sun is shining. A lovely morning actually. I was talking with a few people last night who have lived their entire lives here in Shiga Kogen (or down below in Yamanouchi town) and they were all commenting on how they have never experienced a season like this one before. It truly is unique! (Let's hope it stays that way!) The way that generally temperatures have been higher than normal with a few sudden dips into mid-season cold here and there... 'not normal' is the best way to describe it. In this season of odd weather, how will the rest of February and March treat us? Forecast: snow tomorrow into Wednesday, and then at the end of the week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It almost feels like mid winter! Some good snow falling here this morning and there's just under 15cm of fresh light snow on the ground. Yesterday calmed down and we ended up with a fine day. But it was back to snow and this morning nice big snowflakes are still falling. Like I said it feels like mid winter, oh yes. Please continue. Regular snow (perhaps on and off) is forecast for the coming days and through into early next week so we can look forward to a decent end to the month of February. Could we be in for a good last third of the season? The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . After that lovely start to the day yesterday, here was are this morning with a much more winter-like picture. Good and cold and snow is falling. A perhaps somewhat disappointing 5cm of snowfall compared with some other nearby areas this morning, but it is snowing now though less than a bit earlier and it looks like there's a good chance of it easing off this morning. The forecast for the coming 6 days is looking pretty decent with regular snow. The heaviest snow looks likely to be around Friday and then later on Sunday into Monday. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yesterday the snow clouds cleared up somewhat and we were left with a fine afternoon. This morning we have enjoyed one of those 'it's fine but snowing at the same time' kind of situation. Light snow is falling but there's quite a lot of blue sky up there and visibility is good. Keeping cold. It's a good morning to be out on the slopes. Let's take a look at the forecast. I'm afraid there's not much on there that shows potential for any significant snowfall, or indeed much at all. Over the next few days it's going to be more a case of sunshine and clearer skies if the forecasts are right. And also warmer conditions over the weekend. Down in the valleys it's really going to warm up but up here we should avoid the worst of that, but it'll still be mild. Hopefully not warming up too much. Today and tomorrow should be good though. There haven't been many times I have been able to say that this season but here we are on 1st March and I'm able to report a significant amount of fresh snowfall. And a proper amount too - my friend was saying close to 50cm outside his place. Northerly winds have been blowing snow around and I've taken a few measurements and going to record 35cm as the number today. Great stuff. And it's still snowing. Once we get past today, clearer skies are forecast and not a whole lot of snow lined up either. For now though, today should be GREAT! Morning from Shiga Kogen where it still feels fairly wintery and there is 10cm of fresh snow to report since my report yesterday which should freshen things up a bit but remember there'll be that icy layer beneath the thin layer of new snow. It has been quite cold as well this morning. At the moment there's clouds and there is some sunshine in places. Any more snow due? Yes, it's still there on that forecast so we can hope for some more fresh on the way over the next few days. Anyway the sun us out again this morning and all is calm. It's clearly warmer this morning as well but hopefully things won't warm up too much in the sun. Tomorrow should see a return to cold for a few days along with a good chance of quite a bit of snow, if we are to believe the forecasts. Bring it on, I say! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . A bit more snow to report since yesterday morning and light snow falling early morning. It's remaining cold too which is good for the snow conditions so things are relatively pretty decent at the moment for the start of the weekend. (Obviously I'd prefer 40cm of deep fresh...!) There's some blue sky to be seen here and there at the moment so perhaps it's going to clear up during the day. Or will there be more snow to come? Still some there on the forecast for today and especially tomorrow night as well, so we may not have seen the last of it for the moment. As we get into next week especially around Wednesday we can expect some warmer conditions to arrive. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Yuki! Yes, it's snowing this morning here in Shiga Kogen. And we always like that. Only silly people wouldn't like that. I'm calling it at 5cm so far and it is still falling. Pretty decent snow as well... great to see it and no doubt even greater to get out and slide down on it. Snow is due for the day today and tonight as well and so I am hoping that tomorrow I will also be able to bring further snow news. The snow clouds will probably finish up sometime tomorrow and then after that sunny weather is forecast around Wednesday and Thursday, when it will also get a bit warmer. It's keeping cold today though so I am going to get out there and enjoy it. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen and there's 1cm of snow to report and light snow was still falling earlier on, but has eased off now. Leaving us with just mainly cloud for the moment and hints of blue sky in places. Sunny skies are forecast for tomorrow and perhaps temperatures might hover around zero during the day, but the forecast still teases us with the prospect of some potentially decent snowfall come Wednesday night and through into the weekend. Let's hope it is more than just a tease! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing! And some of the resort areas reporting 20cm of fresh as well. And oddly there's a bit of sunshine coming through my window at the moment. Hold on, no, it's gone. Back to grey cloud cover and the snow falling... Yes, it is a good morning. I mentioned a brief glimpse of the sun - the forecast does actually tell us to expect some of that later on today and so perhaps it's the first signs of clearing conditions. A friend mentioned to me last night, we have just half a month left of 'the full mountain' (ie. all of the resort areas) being open - come April some areas will be closed, though of course some resort areas plan to open right through into May. Most of the resorts don't seem to have adjusted their official snow depth numbers, but that's par for the course!
