So a fairly decent layer to give us some fun this morning and the sun has been out early on as well so early risers should be enjoying themselves this morning. It is forecast to get more cloudy during the middle of the day though and we might get some more snow falling before my report tomorrow morning. And tomorrow too. Yes, please! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 541cm Posted on Tuesday 15th March 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing! And some of the resort areas reporting 20cm of fresh as well. And oddly there's a bit of sunshine coming through my window at the moment. Hold on, no, it's gone. Back to grey cloud cover and the snow falling... Yes, it is a good morning. I mentioned a brief glimpse of the sun - the forecast does actually tell us to expect some of that later on today and so perhaps it's the first signs of clearing conditions. A friend mentioned to me last night, we have just half a month left of 'the full mountain' (ie. all of the resort areas) being open - come April some areas will be closed, though of course some resort areas plan to open right through into May. Most of the resorts don't seem to have adjusted their official snow depth numbers, but that's par for the course! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen and there's more snow to report this morning. 4cm outside my place and I am hearing people talk of anything up to 10cm this morning. And the snow isn't due to let up just yet either, perhaps continuing into tomorrow. It is snowing now but it's quite bright and visibility - here in the Maruike area at least - is pretty good. There is 1 week left for all of the resort area of Shiga Kogen to remain open. Apparently, the ones planning to close would do so even if we got 50cm in one night. Hardly likely of course, I wonder if that did actually happen they might be tempted! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . More fresh snow! It has been a good few days with snow falling and giving us a decent refresh of the slopes. It feels more like mid-winter than it does late March (kind of the opposite of many days during mid season!) Snow is still falling from the skies as I write this though it's also quite bright and good visibility for the moment. It probably won't last beyond today though with sun forecast over the weekend and while it will not be as cold as today it should be keeping pretty cold tomorrow especially. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The sun is out this morning here in Shiga Kogen. Clear blue skies and sunshine. And the snow of the previous days means that it should be a really good morning to be out there. The new snow I am posting this morning is from yesterday since I posted the last report, there was no more overnight. Not much snow on the forecast now, perhaps a bit tomorrow night, so we might get a few sprinklings at times between the sunny skies that are likely in the coming week. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from Shiga Kogen. We had just under 10cm of fresh snow yesterday here in Shiga Kogen. What a lovely mid-April surprise and of course most welcome. It is another cold morning here but will be warming up more as things return to 'spring like' over the coming days. We're still over three and a half weeks away from the remaining resorts due closing date. Ichinose Diamond were planning on continuing but their season is now over. Let's see how the coming weeks go... there's some rain expected by Thursday and with the freezing point way above our peaks we can't really expect it to be snow here unfortunately. Planned late season dates for Shiga Kogen resort areas: Please note that the below dates are all subject to change and of course dependant on snow conditions (and there's less snow than usual this season). We'll try to keep this up-to-date with every new report. Takamagahara Mammoth The quad lift plans to be operating until Sunday 8th May (* Saturdays and Sundays only until 28th April). Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 366cm Posted on Thursday 11th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Lots of cloud around this morning but blue sky as well. It's a national holiday here (National Foundation Day) and so there will be a lot of day-trippers coming up to have a day skiing, though perhaps not as busy as a weekend... we'll see. Seems to be a lot of people around early on though. Sun is forecast for tomorrow and then - as with most places it seems - a real warm up for the weekend. And very possibly rain. Come Monday we should be back to winter-like cold once again with snow expected on Monday and Tuesday. Recommendation - plan accordingly! All planned lifts are operating this morning. The Karamatsu pair lift does not operate on weekdays but is running today because it is a national holiday here in Japan. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 367cm Posted on Monday 15th February 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Ah, it's good to see signs of winter returning after that strange and not very nice weekend. Fairly cold this morning with a moderate wind and a dusting of snow on the slopes I would imagine - just 1cm here at base - but it is still snowing. I would expect some board-rattling conditions this morning so we'd like a nice soft fluffy layer on top of that please. Sadly due to the weather attacking our lovely ice monsters and affecting their conditions, the night time light up evening service is not operating now... officially 'for the time being'. Will we see it back up and running? I suppose it will all depend on the weather and what snow we get from now. We are due light snow today and tomorrow with forecast heavier snow around Wednesday. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . And a decent amount it is! 22cm of snow outside my place here this morning so that means that and more on the mountain for a very welcome decent refresh. There's some other good news this morning - the evening 'Light Up' Ropeway service is going to be re-starting from this evening - though the Ropeway folk are being clear up front that the ice monsters did take a hit over the weekend and are once again 'starting to grow' with this new snowfall. Basically, don't expect them to be perfect. Clearer skies due tomorrow with a return of the snow clouds at the weekend. All planned lifts are operating this morning. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Good morning from a snowy Zao where it has been coming down at quite the rate at times this morning. There's 8cm of fresh to report and more coming down now. This snowfall is probably going to ease off today and over the next few days some sunshine is forecast. Warmth and rain is still a possibility for Saturday - here as in many places through Japan by the looks of things - so the weekend is not looking good unless the forecast changes. Fingers crossed for that. Next few days should be good though. All planned lifts are operating this morning. The Karamatsu pair lift does not operate on weekdays.
