The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Well I can't say I was expecting this, misled by those naughty forecasts, but in this case it's a good thing. Let's 40cm new snowfall! Yep, Kagura boasting 40cm new up there. Here in Naeba it's more like 20cm but still a decent new cover to enjoy. There's a bit of wind up there and early on the upper slope at Naeba are not open because of those winds but the No2 Gondola and Dragondola look set to be moving. Looks like it's just the top lift at the time of writing. Interestingly, Kagura seems to be open as normal. Conditions still likely to clear gradually and finer weather along with mild conditions towards the end of the week. ---- Big news for all you 'top lift at Kagura' fans. They usually open it from March but this season the resort has announced that it is going to be open much earlier than usual --- Friday 1st February in fact. That's this coming Friday! Yikes. Good news. It's official name is Kagura Number 5 Romance lift. Let's Romance! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Now here's a funny thing. Just 5-10cm or so of new snowfall this morning in Naeba. It seems that down in the main Yuzawa town area and even further to the north they have got much more snow fall overnight than we have here. Sometimes this happens, but not often. With Kagura only reporting about the same, we kind of feel left out here. Apparently we are due to get those stormy conditions with strong winds from a bit later on today perhaps as soon as around lunchtime. For now though it remaining quite calm but snow is falling. By the start of the week we are on for a run of clearer days by the looks - and if the forecast is right of course - so a good dump today would be great. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Ah now this is more like it. Naeba reporting 40-60cm of new snowfall. Kagura reporting 50cm of new snowfall. It's still coming down now and it's also very windy and that is affecting both areas. The gondolas and the top of Naeba are not open - it's basically lower slopes for now - and the Tashiro and the main Kagura part of Kagura are closed too. So it's just Mitsumata area that is open there this morning. Things may well calm later on in the day allowing more to open up. The forecast does tell us that it should calm down sometime today and actually after today the snow will ease off for at least a few days. I'm sure the new snowfall we have today will do us just fine for a while. (Of course, we always want more though!) The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Open as normal this morning so there will be some oh so lovely conditions to be found especially in untouched areas from yesterday. Just a slight snowfall since yesterday as the snow eased off with up to 5cm being reported and just a few underfoot. Upper part of Naeba, Tashiro and the Kagura areas top early targets! Much less wind than yesterday and so it looks like both Naeba and the Kagura areas should be open as normal this morning. Calmer conditions with the sometimes snow shower and over the next few days, along with the chance of the sun from time to time. Right now as I write this it is cloudy with some sun trying to break through that layer of cloud. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Just a few cm of snowfall to report this morning and it is snowing now as I write this. Kagura say 5cm of fresh up top. Wind is affecting things a bit early this morning with the Tashiro part of Kagura closed (and also the Dragondola) today. Looks like Mitsumata Ropeway is open and lifts up until the Kagura Number 1 pair lift operating. Other than that, as normal. Not as cold today but from tomorrow that getting to be almost warm spell is due. Sunny tomorrow and then really getting too mild for comfort on Friday into Saturday. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Some thin cloud around early this morning but it looks like it should clear up and be a fine day today in the region. There's about 5cm of new snowfall since yesterday, not enough to fill in all the weekend tracks but still very good conditions out there generally after all the recent snowfalls. It's a cold start to the morning and should stay cold through the day hopefully keeping in the negatives. We might get more snow tomorrow, followed by more clear conditions after that, but the end of the week is looking particularly promising for a whole boat load of new snowfall. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Today will continue the trend of spring conditions we've had this last week. Up the top will be fast and icy early in the day, but will soften as the temperature warms by late morning. On the lower half temperatures remained above zero all night so will be soft from first lifts onwards. We expect a mostly sunny morning before the clouds roll through later this afternoon. Unfortunately there is the possibility of rain, but likely this should quickly turn to snow up high at least. Visibility early on is good, but limited over a long range with a haze blown in by south winds from the metropolitan area of Japan. This means views of surrounding big mountain peaks are somewhat limited. Yesterday was a good day on the mountain but again long range views were limited by haze. The skiing and boarding was good early with fast conditions across the mountain. However with the warm temperatures most areas quickly became slushy. The Yamabiko area was the place to be all day as it held excellent quality spring snow that remained relatively dry. Off piste runs were heavy in the shade and slow and sticky in the sun. The park and pipe were in fine form. The forecast still remains extremely variable over the next week or so. We expect snow showers overnight at higher elevations and a cold Saturday morning. This is a very brief cool front as the freezing level is set to skyrocket from 650 to 3000 meters by late afternoon. On Sunday morning we expect another cold front to move across the region delivering some snow and cold temperatures until at least Monday afternoon. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We have had a further 10-20cm of fresh fall since last lifts yesterday and combine with yesterday's persistent moderate to heavy falls it will be certain that there will be some powder stashes about the resort today. The weather out the window looks snowy at the moment with light falls continuing, probably lasting the day. Avalanche risk is still very high so best to avoid steeper off piste areas for the time being. Yesterday was a good day on the hill, especially the afternoon. During the morning there was some good snow on offer, but only up high (with an icy base). Down low was still pretty icy as it received limited fresh the night before. Consistent snowfalls became heavy during the afternoon, resulting in drastic improvements across the mountain as fresh snow depth increased. The best riding was had during the afternoon. Winds remained intense but luckily did not result in any lift closures so those who braved the conditions up high were rewarded with relatively un-crowded weekend slopes. Visibility was limited all day. Looking at the forecast ahead we expect light snow showers continue today. Following that we should see a clearing trend with a bluebird day expected tomorrow. Tuesday looks like further snow showers are possible, hopefully they produce the goods. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Winter has returned to Nozawa Onsen with a healthy overnight top up recorded. At the moment we have light to moderate flakes falling, very cold temperatures and windy conditions on the higher slopes. Today will be a good day for skiing and boarding with 30cm of dry windblown powder recorded at Uenotaira, 10cm at Yamabiko. 5cm on the lower slopes of the resort. The forecast suggests the sun will make an appearance this afternoon and if this is correct conditions should be good. Head for the tree runs to seek shelter from the wind and improved visibility before the sun comes out. Yesterday about 11am the brief light rain showers turned to snow and it continued to fall as light snow showers for the rest of the day. With the sudden freeze after days of wet snow many places had an icy base but this will have improved today with the fresh snow falls. Looking at the forecast ahead we should see a clear and warm spring day tomorrow before another cold front moves across the region on Wednesday night. Predicted snowfall intensities for this system have been downgraded overnight, but we still expect moderate to heavy falls for about a 12 hour period into Thursday morning. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . We have some light snow in Nozawa Onsen at the moment. After the rain we got last night the precipitation turned to snow delivering 10cm of fresh up high, 3cm was recorded lower down in the village. The conditions should be good for skiing and boarding today with that bit of new snow, cold temperatures and again very quiet slopes. Tree runs will be the pick trapping deeper stashes and offering improved visibility. The groomers should also be in fine form today with fast soft corduroy created for your carving pleasure, courtesy of the Nozawa grooming team. We expect moderate winds to decrease as the day moves on with even some sun a possibility this afternoon. Yesterday was another of those unusually warm days for this time of year. Hot sunshine and temperatures of 17C in the village meant t-shirts were more than appropriate for the conditions. The best riding was had in the morning before the extreme warmth, when conditions were slushy but fast. Later in the day all but the most well ridden areas became fairly sticky, especially the lower slopes. Winds did indeed affect some of the lifts yesterday, but hopefully we'll have none of that today. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Great news this morning. We have had a delivery of fresh powder overnight with 10cm at Yamabiko, 13cm at Uenotaira as of 10am. Reports from the mountain suggest more than a few deeper light dry windblown stashes and some even 'knee deep', especially in the higher elevation gullies. Nice. Just a few cm or so down at village level. Light snowfalls are continued for most of the morning though easing off now. Not many people out there will ensure fresh tracks should be easily found all day long. The gondola line was maybe 15 people waiting at opening. Yesterday the snow remained slushy but did not get too slow. Best areas were the top half of the mountain as well as the challenge area.
