With temperatures fluctuating over the last few days between warm and freezing, snow conditions on the mountain have been varying between icy and soft spring. Today there has been a fresh dusting of new snow, but nothing to get too excited about. Temperatures are cold so the slopes will be firm and frosty but may soften up if temperatures lift during the day. Heavy cloud is enveloping the mountain down to base, so expect compromised visibility at times. Temperatures are cold which bodes well for the quality of the fresh snow up on the mountain. Skies are clear and the sun is out. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . The snow has arrived as forecast and it has been snowing since early this morning. Around the village there is 2cm of accumulation on the roads so far and things are fairly slushy. Temperatures on the mountain are sitting just below freezing and will probably drop a little lower during the day. Visibility is limited due to the heavy snow falling. The outlook for Friday is for more snow with temperatures similar to today. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Looks like a cracker today with plenty of sunshine against blue sky with some clouds here and there. Don't be fooled by the sunshine though, as the temperatures are really cold with -14c recorded at the top of the resort this morning. The recent snow falls combined with more terrain opening up means that the resort is kicking off into full winter mode, and the skiing on the fresh light powder quickly reminds us as to what the Furano experience is all about. There are still quite a few slopes with stones getting churned up, but other than that conditions are great. Family and Junior courses in Kitanomine opened yesterday and were immediately enjoyed by the beginner and intermediate crowds. Today's news is that the Furano Zone Downhill Romance 3 chair will open at 10am giving advanced skiers access to the steeper terrain on Panorama Course. More of Kitanomine opened today with Family being skiable for the first time this season. The day looks like it will stay clear and provide good skiing on the groomed runs. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . After yesterday's tropical temperatures that hovered around +5c for the day, we are back to more wintery negatives. There has been 5cm of new snow overnight which means 15cm has fallen over the last 2 days. There is low cloud rolling down from the tops and because of this there will be patches of low light but overall visibility will be good. Snow conditions will be firm underfoot. Night skiing is operating on both sides of the resort until 8pm. Nearly all of the resort runs are open now and we are just waiting for Kitanomine Gondola to commence operation so that the upper slopes of Kitanomine can be accessed. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Been really nice out there for the last couple of days and with the grooming done overnight things should continue today. We haven't had a great deal of snow overnight just more of a dusting. Very light snow only is forecasted for the weekend but at least at the moment the flakes have been a good size which keeps it powdery. Though more of the resort becomes skiable they are hoping to have a tad more snowfall before the gondola opens here in Kitanomine but a call on that may be made over the weekend. Night skiing begins tonight in the Kitanomine zone. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It will be an amazing powder morning with 10cm of pow layering the town and plenty more up on the mountain. There is no wind and it is still snowing moderately. Visibility is a bit limited with early morning fog surrounding the mountain, but this may lift as the morning progresses. Great news all round and very much needed as there is still some vegetation popping through in areas. It's also a very sunny warm day today with temps being above 0c. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Apart from the winds it is looking like a pretty good morning to head out for some turns on the groomers. There has been 2cm of light dry pow in the village overnight with slightly more higher up the resort. The winds are moderately gusting right now so it is important to wrap up warmly. Tomorrow through to Thursday is forecast to be sunny with the winds reducing a little from tonight. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is good news to report in Furano. Yesterday there was 25cm of snow at village level and things changed from brown to white overnight. The snow was followed by chilly temperatures and it was -10c at base level this morning. The grooming team have been hard at work during the day and have packed down the new snow to form a substantial base. There is not quite enough snow to open the ski area tomorrow, but it is very, very close. With more snow on the forecast tomorrow evening we may see the lifts moving in Furano on Sunday, and if not, early next week.
