A rather vague sounding 10-30cm at Kagura - presumably lower and upper areas - and more like 3-5cm here in Naeba village - so varying amounts but importantly some fresh snow. It is snowing this morning as well with snow forecast for the day. However it's not the kind of snowfall that brings with it large amounts of new cm on the ground so I wouldn't expect a big haul to report tomorrow morning. Could be wrong though! Update --- that 30cm is coming from the Tashiro area. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Nice snowfall to report this morning, very light dry snow fallen overnight and up to around 20cm on Naeba. I'd say more like 15cm on the cars in village, and I am hearing that Kagura has seen up to double that amount since yesterdays report. Whatever the number, conditions should be very good today. Amazing what a good old dump of snow can do isn't it. The official snow depths haven't changed, so just ignore those for the moment! It continues to snow this morning but the skies are due to clear up later on. Good chance of the sun out tomorrow, so weekend visitors should be especially happy. It's a 3 day weekend coming up in Japan with Monday as a national holiday. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . OK today it's out turn for the wilder conditions. 20-40cm of new snow reported by Naeba. 20-30cm of new snow reported by Kagura. (Yes, I know the official snow depth numbers don't jump up by anything like that...!) But more importantly for the lifts and people out on the mountain today, strong winds are blowing about and affecting operations. Looks like it's only going to be the lower part of the mountain open at Naeba today. At least this morning. Hopefully if the winds calm down a bit more might get to open later. At Kagura, the Tashiro area is closed today. Mitsumata is open and up to the Kagura No 1 quad lift. Poor visibility out there. I think many people might give today a miss. Calmer weather forecast for tomorrow, maybe even sunny, followed by more snow the day after. Yey! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Yesterday did indeed clear up to be a fine and sunny one with some fine blue skies above. Snow clouds must have moved back in overnight though as we are happily surprised with a decent amount of new snow. Another 20cm or so I'd say. Noice. It's still snowing at the moment, about -6C here at village level and not much of a wind. The Takenokoyama pair lift will be closed due to maintenance today but other than that we should be normal-weekday ready with both the Dragondola and the Prince Number 2 lifts getting ready to start up for the day. Snow likely to continue through tomorrow as well, so all fingers and toes crossed that we get some nice new deep. Lots of people in areas that don't usually get snow are excited this morning it seems because of the heavy snow falling there. Does that mean we got 90cm overnight? Alas, no it doesn't... the snow has just been falling in the wrong place! We did get about 5cm here in the village area and Naeba resort are reporting 'between 5cm and 20cm' on the slopes. Kagura are saying 5cm. Work that lot out if you can! Generally poor visibility this morning with the snow still coming down. It is snowing now though and fingers and toes crossed we'll get a decent amount to be able to report tomorrow morning. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . 50cm of new snowfall since yesterday. 50cm! That's how much Kagura report this morning. Naeba with 30-40cm. My eyes tell me at least 30cm. What more can I say? Oh apart from strong winds mean that Tashiro is closed for the day and Kagura is open only from Mitsumata Ropeway until Kagura Number 1 pair lift. Top lifts at Naeba also affected. But, that means that there's going to be all those untouched goodies on offer for early adventurers tomorrow. How about that then? It's going to be deeper than deep! More like 10cm here in the Naeba area where light snow has still been lazily falling early this morning but there are signs that it is going to clear up this morning. Already some blue sky up there in the Naeba area. A cold start to the day. It might well be clearer today but more snow is due tomorrow and Friday, so those planning for the weekend should be able to look forward to some fine snow conditions. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Awesome conditions yesterday out there and with another 30cm since yesterdays report at Kagura it will should be more of the same today. Any tracks that were out there will be history and it should be top quality stuff today. Yey! As they say. Here are Naeba we had about 10cm or so in the village, perhaps less than expected, but still there'll be more on the mountain and conditions are good. We were expecting the snow to continue this morning and through today, but it isn't happening like that. In fact there's quite a bit of blue sky over Naeba right now and less cloud by the hour, so the weather seems to be co-operating for the weekend visitors. Some local forecasts still insist it will be snowing all day though, so we'll just have to wait and see. I reckon it'll be a fine day, that's sure what it looks like to me anyway. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Well I can't say I was expecting this, misled by those naughty forecasts, but in this case it's a good thing. Let's 40cm new snowfall! Yep, Kagura boasting 40cm new up there. Here in Naeba it's more like 20cm but still a decent new cover to enjoy. There's a bit of wind up there and early on the upper slope at Naeba are not open because of those winds but the No2 Gondola and Dragondola look set to be moving. Looks like it's just the top lift at the time of writing. Interestingly, Kagura seems to be open as normal. Conditions still likely to clear gradually and finer weather along with mild conditions towards the end of the week. ---- Big news for all you 'top lift at Kagura' fans. They usually open it from March but this season the resort has announced that it is going to be open much earlier than usual --- Friday 1st February in fact. That's this coming Friday! Yikes. Good news. It's official name is Kagura Number 5 Romance lift. Let's Romance! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Now here's a funny thing. Just 5-10cm or so of new snowfall this morning in Naeba. It seems that down in the main Yuzawa town area and even further to the north they have got much more snow fall overnight than we have here. Sometimes this happens, but not often. With Kagura only reporting about the same, we kind of feel left out here. Apparently we are due to get those stormy conditions with strong winds from a bit later on today perhaps as soon as around lunchtime. For now though it remaining quite calm but snow is falling. By the start of the week we are on for a run of clearer days by the looks - and if the forecast is right of course - so a good dump today would be great. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Ah now this is more like it. Naeba reporting 40-60cm of new snowfall. Kagura reporting 50cm of new snowfall. It's still coming down now and it's also very windy and that is affecting both areas. The gondolas and the top of Naeba are not open - it's basically lower slopes for now - and the Tashiro and the main Kagura part of Kagura are closed too. So it's just Mitsumata area that is open there this morning. Things may well calm later on in the day allowing more to open up. The forecast does tell us that it should calm down sometime today and actually after today the snow will ease off for at least a few days. I'm sure the new snowfall we have today will do us just fine for a while. (Of course, we always want more though!) The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Open as normal this morning so there will be some oh so lovely conditions to be found especially in untouched areas from yesterday. Just a slight snowfall since yesterday as the snow eased off with up to 5cm being reported and just a few underfoot. Upper part of Naeba, Tashiro and the Kagura areas top early targets! Much less wind than yesterday and so it looks like both Naeba and the Kagura areas should be open as normal this morning. Calmer conditions with the sometimes snow shower and over the next few days, along with the chance of the sun from time to time. Right now as I write this it is cloudy with some sun trying to break through that layer of cloud.
