The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. It was a lovely day yesterday and I had a fine time up at Hakuba Goryu. There's not a whole lot to report this morning in terms of weather with just a dusting again at lower levels and resorts reporting a thin layer of snow higher up (Cortina saying there's up to 10cm of fresh on it's slopes). There's lots of cloud around this morning and light snow has been falling and snow is on the forecast for today and tomorrow. Here's to a snowy report tomorrow morning. Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field opens up for the season from this morning and they have their Gondola moving along with two lifts and courses over on the Mountain Side of the resort. Hakuba Sanosaka, Hakuba Norikura Onsen and Kashimayari are set to open from tomorrow - I would expect them to be 'part openings', as per the resorts that are currently open. More people are now arriving in Hakuba for an early season ski and while there's places open and fun to be had we could do with a decent dump of snow to really kick things off. • Shiga Kogen Now: Thursday 15th December 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 110cm Posted on Thursday 15th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . The forecast said we might have a break in the snowfall this morning before snow coming back tonight. It was right about the break in the snow clouds as we currently have quite a lot of blue skies and sunshine over Shiga Kogen. It is a lovely morning but very cold early on as well. But we'd like more snow and so hopefully the part of the forecast of it coming back tonight will also be correct. There's not a whole lot of promise for snowfall forecast over the weekend and early in the week so it looks like we'll have to make do with what we get tonight and tomorrow for a while. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Morning from Zao Onsen and I have just under 15cm of fresh snow to report from down here at base. Nice, that should be a bit more higher up and make for some good conditions on the runs that are open. Opening remains unchanged this morning. Snow is forecast over today and tomorrow though not much after that through into early next week and so we'd really like a lot over the next 48 hours please. • Furano Now: Thursday 15th December 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 203cm Posted on Thursday 15th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It couldn't be a more perfect morning here in Furano but it is cold. In the village it is a very chilly -16c, which is the kind of temperature we would expect to get in February. Conditions are extremely clear with not a cloud visible over the resort and perfect blue skies. To top this off there has been 6cm of very light snow since yesterdays report. The courses that are open are in very nice condition with superb packed powder. Certain courses are likely to be fairly crowded in places today due to several school groups on the mountain. As we head out of mid December and toward Christmas there are many wondering when Kitanomine will open. The resort has said opening is delayed due to the snow depth not quite being enough. Looking up at the Kitanomine slopes this morning they must be very close to being ready though as the front face has had a groomer over it and looks pretty good to me. Looking at the weather for the weekend, moderate winds are expected on the upper mountain on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday should see a little more snow but after that there is absolutely nothing on the forecast through to Tuesday. The following courses are expected to be open today: Technical Panorama Spies Sailer Prince Furano Now 2016-2017 season Data as of Thursday 15th December 2016 Total snowfall at base 203cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 30 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 32cm (8th November) November 2016 snowfall 110cm reported on 19 days December 2016 snowfall 93cm reported on 11 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Furano. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Ohayo from Naeba! This morning the snow is falling again, and has been since yesterday afternoon so we have a nice dusting of powder across the slopes. Again, there are the two lifts running as yesterday but the ski areas are getting wider so there is plenty of slope to enjoy. • Niseko Now: Tuesday 13th December 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 185cm Posted on Tuesday 13th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Hello from Niseko base here and after that run of much colder temperatures, it is a much warmer start to the day this morning. Having said that it is still only hovering around 0 degrees as of 8am and probably won't venture much more than a few degrees into positive numbers during the day, so it's nothing to get startled about. After clouds clearing and leaving us with a fine day yesterday with blue skies, we did actually get a limited delivery of fresh snow overnight. I measured 2cm, and as you might expect it is not as light and fluffy as we had previously, but light snow does continues to fall early on. It is expected to ease off soon. Hopefully it will be snowing once again by the end of tomorrow and continue through the weekend. In the meantime, pesky southerly winds might well affect higher lifts in particular today so be wary of that. The Free Ride Park at Niseko Grand Hirafu is now open. (Well, open from 10am-4pm!) --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6am: -4℃, mild wind and 4cm snowfall in 12 hours. Coastal data: Kamui cape ENE8m/s, 1012hPa, 0.7m waves. A southerly storm is picking up above 800m as the next low-pressure system is approaching. Typical pre-low pressure snowfall crystals are observed below 600m elevation, however the snowfall amount is small. Bushes and bamboos are not buried and the out of bounds areas are not suitable for riding yet. Still many hollow space lurking under the bamboo. Try to bootpack and you will sink to your chest and have a very hard time walking out. Better not carelessly drop into the valleys. The storm is forecasted to pick up as the wind swings westerly. Beware of sudden weather changes. The light is weak and the visibility is poor. Ride carefully. The general avalanche risk is low. An Avalanche Institute member’s son has been caught ducking ropes in Hirafu yesterday. Both father and son are deeply reflecting on this matter and we made sure it would never happen again. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . There is a moderate breeze around the base and at the top of Furano Ropeway it is fairly strong. Needless to say with a temperature of -9c and a strong wind it feels extremely chilly when exposed to the elements. There is a light trickle of snow coming down which overnight has given us another dusting of 2cm. For the rest of the week light snow should continue to fall and the temperatures are going to stay very chilly. There is no large dump on the radar at the moment so it will be more of a light top up each night. • Nozawa Now: Monday 12th December 2016

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 18cm Snowfall at base this season 59cm Posted on Monday 12th December 2016 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa and it looks like it is going to be a beauty. Blue skies above the remaining low early morning clouds, and all of that snow that we had over the weekend as well. Once again the resort is reporting a good 50cm of snow on the upper slopes and a decent amount down below as well. All of a sudden the snow depth up on Yamabiko is 130cm. Excellent stuff and after the delay in opening things are now suddenly looking much more exciting. See how quickly things can change! Anyway today we are going to be treated to lovely conditions this morning with perhaps cloud moving in this afternoon. It should be keeping cold. Unfortunately there's a good chance that rain is going to spoil things a bit tomorrow - down at lower levels anyway - but the good news is that it should once again be snowing by the time I port my report on Wednesday. In the meantime today should be a lot of fun for those lucky enough to be able to try it out.
