The latest Furano Now report can be found here . It is looking like a perfect morning with clear skies that are blue with scattered clouds. There is just a little bit of mist hovering around the peaks at the moment but that should lift during the morning. I am also happy to report 7cm of very light powder snow at village level, and I would expect it to be around double that at the top of the resort. Tomorrow looks to bring good and bad. The good is that heavy snow is forecast for the top of the resort on Friday, but there will also be severe winds on Friday and Saturday. The winds are forecast to reduce on Sunday. Heavy snow is forecast for Sunday evening as well. At base level on Friday temperatures may rise above freezing and there is the possibility of rain rather than snow at base. More snow during the day yesterday and a bit further overnight, and this morning the scene is set for what will surely be one of the best of the season so far. I love it when there's lots of fresh snow and the weather is like this; I'm sure lots of other folk do too. It's a cold start but will warm up a bit during the day - not as much as tomorrow though when temperatures may (according to the local forecast) rise to about +6C in the afternoon. Well, it is a chilly start to the day however with a perfect bluebird day on the cards I imagine it will soon warm up to somewhere around 0 degrees celsius. Conditions out there are nicely groomed and soft all over the mountain! Take out your carving plank today as the snow could not be better for laying over some extreme carves! Please bear in mind that whilst we are reporting 10 cm of new snowfall today this is because of snow that fell during the day after our report was posted. As such whilst there is lots of fresh snow around it has all been nicely groomed. As such please don't come out today expecting to find snow that you need to snorkel in! Looking on the fine weather is supposed to hold out for today with a return to snow predicted for tomorrow. The rest of the week is predicted to be a mixture of clouds and light snow with potentially a little bit of rain thrown into the mix. Fruity! The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Well hello! There is nothing much to say other than SNOW! The white stuff just keeps on falling here in Naeba! The constant precipitation over the last 24 hours has put 65cm of fresh powder on the ground. Due to the wind and hard work of the piste maintainers you wont find such deep powder on the runs. There will be plenty of places though that are much deeper where the snow has drifted. It looks set to continue snowing all day, potentially clearing for a short period tomorrow and into Friday. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. It has been really cold yesterday and this morning too.. I was up there yesterday wishing I had an extra layer on. Won't make that mistake today! But I'm definitely heading out there to enjoy another fine delivery of fresh snow. I'm measuring 30cm. 25-40cm is being reported by the resort since yesterday morning (with 15-25cm of that being reported during the day yesterday), so there should be lots of untouched to be found. The clouds should be dispersing by late tonight and we are expecting some lovely clear weather from the start of tomorrow which is going to be just excellent. Today will be too, just remember that extra layer and goggles. Remember, be excited but take care out there and stay safe. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . When you're wrong, you're wrong: there was powder out there... but there was a LOT of powder out there. Probably great out on the slopes, but those who headed into the untracked back were, ah, slow.... Like no movement unless the slope was really steep. And it kept on snowing throughout the day. And the wind blew, but not as much as near the ocean, where I was yesterday afternoon. It's still snowing now, but it's bright enough to make me think the sun is trying to come out. We could use a little settling of the snowpack, to be honest. But people should be careful heading off away from the resorts; the possibility of sluffing is really high, which, combined with all our little valleys and ridges here, could be a bad combination. Here at my Hirafu base I have another 12cm of fresh snowfall to report to you and I would imagine there is a fair bit more higher up - I see the Avalanche Report this morning is reporting 20cm. So there should be a nice new layer to play with this morning. And the other good news is that after the windy conditions yesterday (especially in the morning), it is much calmer this morning. So all the lifts should be opening as normal. In fact, it's a beautiful morning with bright blue skies all around and sunshine. Lovely. And the webcam shows a lot of people lined up for the first lift of the day too. Come on, give us a wave! It's still looking like potentially heavy* snowfall is due on Friday and snowfall continuing into the weekend, so we can look forward to that too. * Heavy, but light... of course. :) --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Niseko base 6am: -12℃, 20cm snowfall and snowdrifts development. Moiwa 800m: -117℃, N5m/s (15m/s@9pm, 17m/s@11pm, 10m/s@3am) snowdrifts development. Annupuri 1150m: -17℃, E15m/s, snowdrift development. Hirafu 1250m: -18℃, 20cm snowfall, snowdrifts developing in the west sides. Kamui cape lighthouse: E5m/s, 1041hPa, 2.0m waves. The storm has temporarily calmed down, but will pick up again as the isobars tightens. The snowdrifts that developed yesterday are uniform and stable at 600m elevation, however stabilization is delayed above 800m and 60cm thick surface slab avalanches from Jan 22nd layer are to be expected in high elevation leeward slopes. Stay away form large valley’s bottom. Avalanches are natural occurrences that won’t become an accident if nobody is there. Gates 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6 will be closed in the morning. The easterly storm have generated large development of snowdrifts and cornices and the mountain looks different than usual. The snow in the forests is moderately dense, bouncy and fun to ride. Plan your day according to the given conditions. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . Morning from Zao and there's more snow on the ground this morning. The very cold conditions remain (-14C at top) and snow continues to fall. Poor visibility again on mountain. So it's not the kind of conditions that everyone enjoys but some lovely snow. For people who like a bit of sunshine and fine views, we're probably going to need to wait until perhaps Thursday for some of that and it looks like around Friday it will be milder - perhaps even temperatures going into low positive numbers. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Morning from another snowing morning here in Nozawa. It's cold too. Some interesting numbers being reported by the resort this morning ranging from 45cm at Yamabiko to 10cm at Karasawa - and 38cm at Nagasaka. These are the numbers from yesterday afternoon and overnight added up. Perhaps wind can account for this and at my measuring point I have measured 24cm. Bottom line though is another nice new layer of fresh snow out there. At the time of writing it seems the Uenotaira quad lift is on hold due to (presumably) wind. There's more to come as well during the day today and into tomorrow. If you're looking for clearer weather, Thursday is probably the day.
