The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. And what a fine morning it is! There was a lot of cloud around when I got up earlier on. Less now, though it's varied depending on where abouts in the area you are. Right now I am posting this report from the southern Kumanoyu area where there's some fast moving cloud but there is also blue sky and the sun is shining through the breaks in the clouds at times. There should be snow falling once again tomorrow and then decent snow likely once again before the middle of next week. Today is 'back to work' for a lot of people but those being able to stay behind should be enjoying themselves today. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. I had my best day of the season yesterday. Brilliant. Some more snowfall but this morning it is just cloudy conditions - with clearer skies to be seen away from Nozawa and perhaps we'll get the clouds clearing above us here too. That's what the forecasts say. We should be getting snowed on again tomorrow. On the mountain right now the only course areas not open are Kandahar and Grand Prix. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Madarao region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 283cm Weather overview Blue sky and a bit of cloud Wind Light Temperature - Visibility Very good Posted on Friday 4th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Madarao. I remember saying yesterday that the snow might build up again, but that didn't last long and this morning the resort are reporting 0cm of fresh which seems quite surprising. I'm adding a few for what fell since my last report. Look at the images below - the mountain is looking very tempting this morning with some blue skies and a bit of sun shining down in places from behind some of the few clouds left hanging on? It is going to be a fine, fine day. And, perhaps a bit of a reset tomorrow with some snow forecast but I do notice the temps look set to be a little higher than they have been. We want them to keep down low right through until March, please. Today the banks are back open and more people will be returning to work after their New Year break. I wonder how many will be taking the day off today... • Niseko Now: Friday 4th January 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 455cm Posted on Friday 4th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here First of all, if you were naughty and didn't read my report from yesterday please let me bring my look back at the season so far to your attention. There's only a little fresh snowfall to report to you this morning, I am just about managing to report 1cm. The forecast is looking good for regular snowfall starting from tonight and into next week, so we should be getting a reset soon. As I made note of in the report yesterday, one of the less excite aspects of being such a hugely popular place is that you really need the regular fresh to fill in quickly tracked-out courses. But don't worry, I will very likely be bringing you some numbers tomorrow. Someone asked about the early Gondola service at Niseko Annupuri, and if there were any plans for any further such operations beyond the planned 12th-14th January... as far as I can tell, that will be the last of the early morning Annupuri for this season. (I'll keep an eye on that -- and if anyone has any differing information, please do tell. I'm always happy to admit a mistake if I make one). From Monday, Niseko Grand Hirafu plans to opening early but I am failing in my trying to find out full details. Perhaps it is a secret. (I'll post info as soon as I know). --- Niseko Avalanche Report Niseko base 6am: -6℃, no snowfall, calm. Moiwa800m: -7.3℃, SW1.2m/s, 5cm snowfall and 30cm snowdrifts in 12hours. Mikaeri junction: -9℃, calm and no snowfall. Annupuri1120m: 170cm snow depth. Peak: -12℃, light breeze and snowfall. Niseko Village Mizuno no sawa: -8.69℃, SW3.4m/s, 240cm snow depth. Kutchan town: -5.5℃, E1.5m/s, 122cm snow depth. Coastal data Benkei cape: NW9m/s, Kamui cape: SW10m/s, 1023hPa, 1.4m waves. Calm morning under a high-pressure system. No new snow has fallen, cornices and snowdrifts development is minimal and yesterday’s tracks remains. Jan 3-4th layer will form and potentially become a trigger layer under future snowfall transition. The mountain is mostly tracked out. Ski carefully and remain in control. Beware of sudden weather changes. Large cracks have formed at 1000m Higashi-One. Those cracks are the result of the slope releasing its tension under the weight of Dec 27-29th heavy snowfall and snowdrift development. Avalanches caused from same storm’s Dec 27th hoar layer are to be expected in 1000m NE aspects. Better not stimulate cornices/knolls and stay away from valley bottoms. There is no guaranteed safety in Winter Mountains. Listen to the ski patrol’s instructions and be prudent. --- Ski resort operation information: Friday 4th January 2019 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . It's snowing. And I can hardly see a thing! Yes, some blizzard like conditions early this morning in Shiga Kogen with poor visibility, a cold wind and snow falling at a decent rate. Resorts are reporting various amounts this morning - 5cm from Kumanoyu, 20cm overnight at Yakebitaiyama and 5-10cm at Okushiga Kogen. I myself am measuring 16cm. Some may call it "bad weather". Some may call it "great weather" (fresh snow!). I think that we might all be agreed that the sun that is forecast for tomorrow should make tomorrow a great day. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . I kinda thought that snow would taper off, looking at the weather reports, and looking our the window before going to bed last night. Not much was coming down then; LOTS coming down right now. The 2-meter mark has been reached on the snowpack pole out in the yard, and another 40+ cm of big, fluffy flakes on the ground. It's sort of the Myoko I remember from many years past... The roads are a bit tricky out there with lots of snow and lots of cars chewing it up. But, really, there aren't that many people around! The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . A nice surprise this morning and for some reason I wasn't expecting this much. I like being surprised this way though! The ski resort are reporting over 40cm of fresh snowfall on the upper Yamabiko and Uenotaira areas with 20-30cm reported from lower slopes. A large part of that is from overnight with just a bit from the day yesterday. So conditions should be excellent out there this morning. And now that the peak New Year rush period is over there should be less people around this morning. Less people tomorrow too and the forecast currently shows that we can expect some sunshine during the day (tomorrow). If we get that sun, tomorrow should be a cracker especially if we get further snow during the day today which seems likely. All is good! Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report. SnowJapan is an entirely independent operation. Our daily reports are not posted on behalf of ski areas or any other business or organisation. Since first going online in 1999, the integrity of this website has always been our top priority, and it is something we are not prepared to compromise. All content is carefully created and written by humans who share a passion for the subject and what SnowJapan stands for. About SnowJapan.com About the daily reporting on SnowJapan.com
