Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 41cm
Snowfall at base this season 556cm

Posted on Thursday 3rd January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

I kinda thought that snow would taper off, looking at the weather reports, and looking our the window before going to bed last night.

Not much was coming down then; LOTS coming down right now. The 2-meter mark has been reached on the snowpack pole out in the yard, and another 40+ cm of big, fluffy flakes on the ground. It's sort of the Myoko I remember from many years past...

The roads are a bit tricky out there with lots of snow and lots of cars chewing it up. But, really, there aren't that many people around! I guess the U-turn back to Tokyo and the other cities for a work day tomorrow... Poor people; all that powder today...
