- Hakuba Now: Saturday 29th December 2018
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 104cm Posted on Saturday 29th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . I have been here working on trying to gather as much information as possible. Sometimes not as easy as you might think, especially at periods like this when snow is falling and resorts are opening more every day. Enough of the excuses! OK so 16cm of fresh snow to report and the headline snowfall numbers from the resorts as follows: Hakuba Goryu: 5-15cm (base-top) Hakuba 47: 10-15cm (base-top) Hakuba Cortina: 15+cm Hakuba Iwatake: 10-20cm (base-top) Hakuba Happo-one: 10cm (top of Gondola) Light snow has been falling this morning and it is another cold start to the day with more snow due into tomorrow and then during the week too. If you want to see some sunshine Monday might see a break in the clouds. In the meantime, we can get out to enjoy the current conditions. Not all resorts are fully open yet, though I would hope that will soon happen. Further snow should see that happen. They 100% want to be 100% open for the New Year holidays - there are a lot of expectant powder hungry people around and will be more coming over the next few days. Conditions on the mountain are very good - well, they certainly were over at Cortina yesterday! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Morning from Shiga Kogen. Mid winter cold and snowy conditions up here this morning. An interesting thing to point out - Kumanoyu are reporting about 10cm of fresh snowfall while Yakebitaiyama are reporting about 30cm. So 10-30cm in different parts of the Shiga Kogen region. Both can be correct. I am measuring 14cm to add to our reports here. Every day I will try to report what resorts are reporting as well as what I am measuring so that you can have as wide an account of what is happening as possible. Anyway limited visibility now as the snow continues to fall and hopefully/probably that will continue into early next week. With hopefully some larger numbers to report in the next few reports. There's 35cm of fresh snowfall on the top Yamabiko area and 20-28cm across the mountain, according to the resort. And I have just measured 24cm. Nice. Cold too. Proper mid-winter conditions. And it is continuing to snow and not about to let up any time soon so things should quickly build up. I don't have any news yet of lift/course changes but there will be changes over the next few days. Some preparation and checking is surely involved - they'll get things open as soon as they can safely. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning. Oh yes. Oh yes. It surely is. Not great if you like sunshine and blue skies. But if you love quality fresh snow, there's a lot of it around this morning. The resort has 40cm on their website and I have just been outside to measure 35cm. And it continues to snow with the forecast telling us to expect the clouds to remain over us for at least a few more days. This is really going to kick start things into full gear pretty quickly, I would imagine. So, if you are on the way here - lots to look forward to but take care on the roads and come prepared for some cold and snowy conditions. At the time of writing I can't see any changes to planned operations for the day, but as the snow continues to build up and the resort manages it all, we can expect more to open. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 88cm Posted on Friday 28th December 2018 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. The snow headlines: Hakuba Cortina: 50cm (base-top) Hakuba Goryu: 10cm (base); 25cm (top) Hakuba 47: 10cm (base); 20cm (top) Hakuba Iwatake: 20cm-30cm Hakuba Happo-one: 10cm (top of Adam gondola) Ding ding ding ding ding! - we have a clear winner... Cortina are reporting a whopping 50cm of fresh snow base to top this morning. Oh yes, I want to get deep in that lot! While Tsugaike Kogen do not give out such numbers, they are also adding a fair bit to their snow depths and so it looks like the northern resorts in particular have been on the receiving end of some serious dumpage. (Tsugaike also now have their Karamatsu course open so it looks like you can ride back down to Gondola base). There's some pretty decent snow reported around other parts of the valley too, so conditions should be good out there this morning. I am measuring 16cm to add to my numbers. The Hakuba Sanosaka area is (re-)opening from today. I am totally looking forward to being able to not have to check and report on 'courses open' kind of info. Perhaps soon! The forecast remains 'snow' for the next few days. Come on... more, more, more. Have a fine day wherever you are.
