  • Furano Now: Tuesday 8th January 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Furano region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 1cm Snowfall at base this season 301cm Posted on Tuesday 8th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Looks like great weather is with us here in Furano to start off the day. It is nice and calm with no wind in the village. While it is mostly cloudy there is quite a bit of blue sky as well, and the morning sun is coming through. Expect the slopes to be in great condition after overnight grooming. There is a dusting of new snow at town level so the courses should have received a 2-3cm freshen up. Later in the day light snow is predicted. • Nozawa Now: Tuesday 8th January 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 2cm Snowfall at base this season 280cm Posted on Tuesday 8th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello and a good morning to you from Nozawa. There is lots of cloud around this morning but are some of them perhaps retreating? It looks like clearer skies might happen at the moment, but even if that happens it isn't going to be lasting for long with snow due particularly later on in the day - and that heavy snowfall that we are expecting tonight (looks like it is really going to be coming down in style overnight). It's not particularly cold this morning so we look set to be having a pretty mild day. A good day to get an early start. The resort has reported up 5-9cm of fresh snowfall on the upper slopes since yesterday morning. I'll see you tomorrow with hopefully some good news of fresh powder on the ground. • Niseko Now: Tuesday 8th January 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 24cm Snowfall at base this season 511cm Posted on Tuesday 8th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Good morning from Niseko. And what a jolly good morning it is too. How does 24cm of fresh snowfall sound? Good, right? Some heavy snowfall overnight with lovely light snow on the ground greeting us this early morning. Wonderful. Conditions should be excellent this morning. We can reasonably expect 30-40cm of beautiful light fresh snow on the mountain this morning. I'm full of my fave toast and am ready to get myself out there to enjoy it once I post this report. Snow will probably continue falling during the day today and tonight, perhaps letting up by tomorrow. There's not much of a wind but visibility is looking limited. Currently the forecast seems to be showing a good chance of some clearer skies and sunshine over the weekend which will make for a change. I see a rather... interesting... last comment there on the Avalanche Report today (below). I think a very clear point is trying to be made there! It is totally natural to get very excited about such conditions, but let's remembering: Safety first. Take care and have fun everyone. --- Niseko Avalanche Report Mountain Base 6.00am: -6°, 30cm new snow in the last 24 hrs, light winds, calm. Moiwa 800m: -8.8°, SW4.9m/s, snow drift development, 40cm new snow, calm. Mikaeri Weather Station: light winds, 30cm new snow in last 24hrs. Annupuri 1120m: snow depth 175cm. Hirafu Peak : -14°, SW10m/s, 30cm new snow in last 24hrs, snowdrift development. Mizuno no Sawa 1000m: -10.9° , 25 cm new snow in last 24hrs, snowpack 140cm. Kutchan Weather Station: -6.2°, snow depth 135cm. Coastal data: Benkei Cape: NW13m/s. Kamui Cape: SW14m/s, 1011hPa, wave 1.2m. A light snow wind is blowing above 800m with continued snowdrift development. From tests cornices are collapsing easily with fracture at 40cm depth. Snow today is very good. From observation and data, general avalanche risk is low, however on steep slopes similar to Kozan no sawa sidewall it is possible to stimulate an avalanche from rider weight. If an avalanche propagates from the deeper Jan 5th layer, rather than the higher Jan 7th layer, it will be a very dangerous surface avalanche. Do not wait in the valley bottom. Do not enter Haru no Taki. If you are that desperate for some steeps, go ride in an Alaska extreme competition. You'll be crying like a little girl standing at the top of a “real” big man mountain. Air bags don't always save you. Have a good day. --- Ski resort operation information: Tuesday 8th January 2019 The below information is manually checked each morning and believed to be correct at time of report. Subject to change! The latest Myoko Now report can be found here . The sun is out again today, but I don't think it's going to last very long! It's actually nice to be able to see things around us, and we've had Januarys where there is only maybe one or two days when the sun shines. Nice to be able to see the peaks. I love it when guests are suddenly shocked by the big, beautiful mountain just behind! And at how many visitors in winter never actually see Mt. Myoko. The stars were out around 7pm last night, and then a few random flakes started drifting in from clouds over the mountain. That carried on for at least a few hours, giving us a few centimeters of fresh this morning. Very pretty, sparkly flakes, too, so everything looks great this morning. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Yesterday it was snowing during the day with 5cm on the ground by late afternoon and this morning the resort is reporting an additional 20cm of fresh snowfall on the top Yamabiko area with another 5cm down by base. My full measurement since yesterday morning is 10cm. Looks like there is some kind of event happening at the Yunomine A course meaning it is not available to the general public. Other than that and the Kandahar and Grand Prix, all courses are available. On normal weekdays the Mizunashi triple, Challenge pair and Utopia pair lifts are usually rested but that doesn't affect the amount of terrain available. Normal weekdays after a holiday period usually means that the courses will be relatively quiet today. Hope you can be here to enjoy it. Information regarding ski area operations is manually checked every morning and is believed to be correct at the time of the report. SnowJapan is an entirely independent operation. Our daily reports are not posted on behalf of ski areas or any other business or organisation. Since first going online in 1999, the integrity of this website has always been our top priority, and it is something we are not prepared to compromise. All content is carefully created and written by humans who share a passion for the subject and what SnowJapan stands for. About SnowJapan.com About the daily reporting on SnowJapan.com
