Independent snow and weather reporting from the Myoko region of Niigata

New snowfall at base 4cm
Snowfall at base this season 602cm

Posted on Monday 7th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Myoko Now report can be found here.

The sun is out again today, but I don't think it's going to last very long!

It's actually nice to be able to see things around us, and we've had Januarys where there is only maybe one or two days when the sun shines. Nice to be able to see the peaks. I love it when guests are suddenly shocked by the big, beautiful mountain just behind! And at how many visitors in winter never actually see Mt. Myoko.

The stars were out around 7pm last night, and then a few random flakes started drifting in from clouds over the mountain. That carried on for at least a few hours, giving us a few centimeters of fresh this morning. Very pretty, sparkly flakes, too, so everything looks great this morning.

Nice way to start a workweek (and a nice spot to call your workplace).
