- Hakuba Now: Sunday 27th January 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 286cm Posted on Sunday 27th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning to you all and here are your Sunday morning headlines; fresh snowfall reported by ski resorts: Hakuba Cortina: 20+cm (base/top) Hakuba Happo-one: 20cm top of Riesen quad Hakuba Iwatake: 20cm Hakuba Goryu: 10-25cm Hakuba 47: 10cm Not as much down in the village and honestly I was hoping and expecting more impressive numbers than that. But still, 20cm or so on the slopes is always welcome and conditions should be good this morning as temperatures remain low. And the forecasts still show some pretty regular snowfall over the coming week - in particular later tomorrow and then from Thursday onwards. At the time of writing the top Grat and Alpen quad lifts at Happo-one are on hold, but as far as I can tell all other resorts are open as normal. As you can see from the webcam images below, visibility is variable this morning on the mountains. Good in places, poor in others. The sun is shining through clouds outside my place now and there's quite a lot of blue sky over the village. Should be a fine day. Before that snow moves in again later on tomorrow, the day should be starting off with some sun again. Have a great Sunday. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 255cm - Usagidaira: 170cm - Nakiyama: 130cm Notes: - All course areas open (apart from Urakuro and Omusubi off-piste areas) ----- Hakuba Goryu Official snow depth: - Top: 285cm - Toomi: 160cm - Iimori: 120cm Notes: - All main course areas open ----- Hakuba 47 Official snow depth: - Top: 270cm - Base: 140cm Notes: - All main course areas open - Tree Riding Zones should be open ----- Tsugaike Kogen Official snow depth: - Tsuga-no-mori: 265cm - Han-no-ki: 260cm - Maruyama: 130cm - Shirakaba: 225cm - Champion: 170cm - Oya-no-hara: 165cm - Kane-no-naru-oka: 170cm Notes: - All main course areas open ----- Hakuba Cortina Official snow depth: - Top: 300cm - Base: 200cm Notes: - All main course areas open ----- Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Official snow depth: - Mountain Side: 180cm - Village Side: 100cm Notes: - Most lifts operating - All main course areas open ----- Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: - 250cm Notes: - All main course areas open - All lifts apart from Number 7 should be operating ----- Hakuba Valley Kashimayari Official snow depth: - 195cm Notes: - All main course areas open - All lifts are operating ----- Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: - Top: 180cm - Base: 110cm Notes: - All lifts are operating Hakuba Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Sunday 27th January 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 286cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 30 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 27cm (22nd January) November 2018 snowfall 0cm December 2018 snowfall 112cm reported on 12 days January 2019 snowfall 174cm reported on 18 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 5cm Snowfall at base this season 681cm Posted on Sunday 27th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I can bring you news of some new cm of snow this morning. Not a large amount - just under 5cm (but I'm remembering those few unreported mm from yesterday). It was snowing earlier on but right now some blue skies are starting to appear over our mountain (though Mt Yotei over in the other direction is still shrouded in cloud). Maybe some more snow tomorrow and then more coming in again from Wednesday. --- Just looking at the numbers that I produce in these reports. (I don't usually take much notice on a day to day basis, so always fun to see how things are going). I have so far observed 264cm of snowfall this month. Last January I observed 305cm for the month. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Morning all. We are on for some heavy snowfall this weekend. It is snowing and not a huge amount yet until now, but some serious dumpage is due over the next 24+ hours. Big numbers ahoy tomorrow I think. There is a good chance that the planned fireworks tonight will not happen too (will depend on the weather this evening, but I wouldn't expect it to happen). The Number 1 Gondola seems to be having some problems today and it may well not open at all. Let's quick fixing! The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Some really nice snowflakes have been falling earlier this morning with not much of a wind. Right now as I am putting this report together there isn't snow falling outside my window and not a huge amount so far on the ground since yesterday, but it will likely be building up rather quickly later on with some (very?) heavy snow due over the next 24+ hours. - Nozawa Now: Saturday 26th January 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 12cm Snowfall at base this season 559cm Posted on Saturday 26th January 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Good morning from Nozawa. There's a bit of a break in the snow right now at base but it is very likely temporary. Snow is forecast for the day with that heavy snow still there on the forecast for later tonight into tomorrow. Still looking very promising. One important point I would like to make: I do not work for the ski resort or any related business. I don't own one either. And no such business has any kind of influence on what I write in these reports. None whatsoever. (Even Nasuki - everyone's fave skiing brightly coloured vegetable mascot character - doesn't have a say). So, as much as I truly love Nozawa, my reports are not here to 'promote' it. This is not a marketing promotion. It does not exist in order to try and persuade you to come to Nozawa. Rather, I am simply here to report things as I see them. And I can tell you it feels great to not have any such entanglements or pressures. I sleep well at night. Actually a bit too well last night, hence later report. ;) But that is also why sometimes I make comments like 'it looks like Kamoshika course is back open'... I'm just going on available official information sources for that kind of thing and sometimes the available information can be a bit vague. Hope that's clear! The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Apologies for my later report this morning. A few friends from my home country are here in Hakuba and they took me out for what ended up being a rather long evening. It was a good night. I think. But I am feeling rather.. delicate.. this morning and I am having to take things rather slowly. Enough of my excuses and babbling on, please don't ask for refunds. ;) Yesterday by late morning more and more blue sky has started to appear between the clouds but it was getting cloudy again later in the afternoon. Some good snow coming down last night and this morning Cortina, 47 and Goryu are all reporting 10-15cm of fresh snowfall. Iwatake is reporting 20cm. I was expecting (or was that just hoping for) more, but we are still looking at that potential heavy snowfall later on so I hope tomorrow I will be clearer of head and need to be out with a shovel early on. Anyway, there is fresh snow out there this morning. Looks like rather limited visibility out on the mountain this morning. I notice Hakuba Iwatake is also saying 'all courses open' this morning, happy to report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Hello and good morning from a very windy and blizzard like Shiga Kogen. It's some contrast to the lovely weather we enjoyed yesterday. Actually it seems to have calmed down somewhat since earlier on when there was snow blowing around and trees moving in the wind. It is one of those days when it is difficult to give a definitive number on fresh snowfall, but I think 25cm is fair for my report this morning. Visibility is generally limited still and so probably not very nice conditions for many to be outside just now. Some lifts affected as well by the windy conditions but generally most areas appear to be opening. There might be a let up tomorrow but Saturday looks like we're going to be slammed by a lot more snow. Some gas/fog around making visibility rather limited and indeed the quad lift had to stop due to the conditions at the time and all but A1-5 courses were closed too. This morning just 7cm (was expecting more) of fresh to report. There's some thin cloud around the mountain and clearer down below, perhaps we will get some sun today? The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . There is lots of cloud around this morning with a bit of sun trying to peek through them in places and hints of blue sky, after some light snow falling a bit earlier on. Might we perhaps enjoy a temporary clearing in the skies this morning? It should last long though because we are still on for some heavy snow sometime tomorrow and possibly into Sunday. Pretty quiet this morning but it should be a great morning for anyone here to enjoy it.
