  • Hakuba Now: Friday 8th March 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 359cm Posted on Friday 8th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. At last! Fresh snow on the ground. Oh yes, I always love to be able to say that. First up, the headlines with the fresh snowfall that the ski resorts are reporting: Hakuba Cortina: 20-30cm (both base and top) Hakuba Goryu: 5-10cm Hakuba 47: 10-15cm Hakuba Happo-one: 7cm (top Riesen lift) So it sounds like you can expect 10+cm on the slopes, Cortina sounding nice - though early on they are not fully open (see below and check with them if you plan on going over there). Tsugaike Kogen have also added a similar chunk to their official snow depth numbers (yey!), but they don't share fresh snowfall numbers in themselves (booo!). I can add 7cm to the report from here outside my place and there's snow on the ground on the main roads around the area. Limited visibility in places on the mountain as snow continues to fall early morning but there is increasingly blue sky around over the village and we can expect more of that as conditions clear. Tomorrow is going to be warmer and probably clear and sunny from the get go. Fresh snow. Excellent. Let's enjoy it while we can. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 255cm - Usagidaira: 180cm - Nakiyama: 55cm Notes: - There are some restrictions on parts of Usagidaira and Kurobishi until 10th March due to event being held there - Otherwise, all main courses are open - Urakuro off-piste area is closed / Omusubi open ----- Hakuba Goryu Official snow depth: - Top: 245cm - Toomi: 120cm - Iimori: 100cm Notes: - All courses open apart from Adventure (which is now closed for the season) ----- Hakuba 47 Official snow depth: - Top: 255cm - Base: 100cm Notes: - All courses are open ----- Tsugaike Kogen Official snow depth: - Tsuga-no-mori: 290cm - Han-no-ki: 265cm - Maruyama: 112cm - Shirakaba: 225cm - Champion: 125cm - Oya-no-hara: 140cm - Kane-no-naru-oka: 86cm Notes: - Tsugaike Ropeway (located at the top of the resort) is now generally open for spring operations - but seemingly closed this morning - All courses are open ----- Hakuba Cortina Official snow depth: - Top: 250cm - Base: 150cm Notes: - 4 and 5 lifts closed - Ikenota, Ikenota Forest, Rabbit, Kamoshika, Snake and Warabi slopes open this morning ----- Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field Official snow depth: - Mountain Side: 150cm - Village Side: 50cm Notes: - Village Side is part open; Mountain Side is mostly open ----- Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: - 130cm Notes: - Most lifts and almost all courses are open ----- Hakuba Valley Kashimayari Official snow depth: - 170cm Notes: - All lifts apart from 8 and 10 operating - Almost all courses are open ----- Hakuba Sanosaka Official snow depth: - Top: 60cm - Base: 40cm Notes: - All lifts are operating Hakuba Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Friday 8th March 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 359cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 43 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 33cm (29th January) November 2018 snowfall 0cm December 2018 snowfall 112cm reported on 12 days January 2019 snowfall 207cm reported on 19 days February 2019 snowfall 33cm reported on 11 days March 2019 snowfall 7cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning. It really is a good morning it is too with some decent fresh snow around. The resort this morning as reporting 30cm of it and I have measured 32cm. It seems to be easing off now with visibility improving a little and signs that the sun might even be trying to break through the clouds. It's cold and I'm excited about conditions today. For the people here at the moment - lucky!! It feels like winter again after a long stretch of spring. And I am going to go and enjoy it. Tomorrow should be good too of course, though it will be warmer and the sun will be out from early on. Maybe not the best for snow conditions later on with the warmth, but it will definitely be a feel-good day. ----- Official snow depth at Madarao: 280cm Madarao info: All lifts apart from Number 5 plan to be open. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Naeba region of Niigata New snowfall at base 22cm Snowfall at base this season 761cm Posted on Friday 8th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Naeba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Naeba and it feels like winter again. Some snow yesterday but more overnight with the resort reporting 10-15cm and I expect more actually higher up. Kagura have reported more than 40cm since yesterday. Unfortunately the link with Kagura is not open at the start of the day with Dragondola on hold due to wind conditions. This snowfall is not expected to continue for long, perhaps clearing up during the day today, and then tomorrow it is very likely that the sun will be out and clear skies from the beginning of the day. Much warmer than this morning too. Which kind of makes the last 24 hours or so the blip in the spring like conditions that we have had of late. So we should really make the most of it... Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 34cm Snowfall at base this season 628cm Posted on Friday 8th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning from Shiga Kogen. Mid-winter! I have had to shovel snow this morning. It really does feel like January again. Kumanoyu are reporting 30cm of fresh 'since yesterday' (vague timing) and Yakebitaiyama are reporting 40cm overnight. I have measured 34cm, though it is more and less in places due to wind. And it is really coming down now with a moderate wind blowing it about too and limited visibility. The wind might affect some lifts (I am hearing that the link between Okushiga Kogen and Yakebitaiyama is closed, for example). This blast of winter is not due to last long with a return to milder conditions tomorrow with the sun warming things up. It should be an excellent weekend though. • Nozawa Now: Friday 8th March 2019

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 22cm Snowfall at base this season 822cm Posted on Friday 8th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . How about this then? 20-42cm of fresh snow being reported by the resort since yesterday morning (almost all of it overnight) as the mountain is transformed back to something like mid-winter mode. Excellent news and I can hardly wait to get on those lifts this morning. Though visibility looks very limited early on so need to get fully kitted out. There's a chance of clearer weather later in the day as the snow is due to stop sometime this morning. This is not a full-on return to winter as we are expecting warm weather and sunshine tomorrow, but it does mean that we can taste some winter once again at least for today - and tomorrow should be good too. It looks like there might be more snowfall coming in next week too, so there might be another mini-blast coming after this one. Whatever, I recommend thinking this might be the last one and dropping everything to make sure that you get out and enjoy it if at all possible. :) Fresh snowfall reported by the ski resort (since yesterday morning): - Yamabiko (1407m): 42cm - Uenotaira (1230m): 26cm - Hikage (660m): 20cm - Nagasaka (615m): 20cm - Karasawa (563m): 20cm Official snow depth numbers (reported by resort): - Yamabiko (1407m): 310cm - Uenotaira (1230m): 260cm - Hikage (660m): 145cm - Nagasaka (615m): 135cm - Karasawa (563m): 95cm All lifts apart from the following should be operating: - Yunomine pair - Mizunashi triple - Challenge pair - Utopia pair - Kandahar All courses should be open apart from the following: - Grand Prix - Kandahar Nozawa Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Friday 8th March 2019 Total snowfall at base 822cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 48cm (9th January) November 2018 snowfall 2cm reported on 1 day December 2018 snowfall 202cm reported on 13 days January 2019 snowfall 425cm reported on 24 days February 2019 snowfall 170cm reported on 12 days March 2019 snowfall 23cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Nozawa Onsen. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 900cm Posted on Friday 8th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here I was able to get an early lift yesterday which was a real novelty. I suppose I should get too used to that feeling! There was some cloud around at times, but lots of blue sky too and a fine day was had. It was also nice to find a dusting of snow on the mountain, though it wasn't more than a cm or two in places. There is quite a lot of cloud hanging over the mountain early this morning though some blue sky and sunshine casting shadows. There is lots of blue sky over towards Mt Yotei, who is sporting a very fashionable flat hat early on. As you do. All lifts appear to be opening as planned this morning, though hearing about stronger winds higher up. Is that a chance of some snow early next week? I think it might be. That would be a bonus. Before then generally fine and milder weather should continue over the weekend. --- Niseko Avalanche Report: Mountain base 6am: -7℃, no new snow, radiative cooling. This morning there is a lot of cloud and fog around but it's forecast to be clearer later on so we can expect clearing conditions this morning. More snow still possible around Thursday.
