Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 23cm
Snowfall at base this season 498cm

Posted on Thursday 14th March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Lots of fresh snow this morning, right down to base. I am hearing from a friend who works for the resort that there is up to 40+cm in windblown areas this morning. And there is a good 20cm of fresh snow down at base too.

Windy too with limited visibility this morning and so extra care needed. Lifts appear to be moving as normal though.

Tomorrow clearer skies are forecast... should be a great day.

Operation info from official sources:

- All main course areas open apart from Karamatsu (Karamatsu lift now closed for the season)

- All other lifts operating as planned (Yokokura Number 2 pair rested)

Official snow depths (as reported by resort):

- Summit area: 105cm

- Paradise area: 160cm

- Chuo area: 160cm

- Utopia area: 170cm

- Uwanodai area: 100cm

- Oomori area: 100cm
