- Hakuba Now: Monday 1st April 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 402cm Posted on Monday 1st April 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. It feels more like the middle of winter than April for the moment. Not complaining. (Well, apart from the fact that I was not able to get my skis on yesterday and I am not able to today either). But I am hearing good things about this fresh snow we have received. Just 3cm to report from base areas but resorts are again reporting more... Hakuba 47 reporting 20cm further snowfall on upper areas. (Happo-one just going with 5cm this morning). Whatever, it's perhaps not the time to get bogged down with numbers. It is just amazing to see this much fresh snow falling as we enter April. Bit mad. There is some blue sky around now but believe it or not we are expecting more snow later this afternoon and perhaps at times tomorrow too. !! The Hakuba Norikura, Hakube Cortina and Hakube Iwatake resorts are now closed for the season after their last day of the season yesterday. Kashimayari plans to continue until Sunday. And Hakuba Happo-one, Tsugaike Kogen, Hakuba 47 and Hakuba Goryu plan to be open until 6th May. The latest Madarao Now report can be found here . Good morning from Madarao. Well, here we are on the last day of the winter season at Madarao. The season has come and gone way too fast (as always), but I have had a blast (as always). At the end of today the lifts on our mountain will be able to take a well-earned rest. It has been a bit of an odd last day really as we have seen some very changeable weather conditions. But that doesn't matter now. And the snow that might fall in the few days doesn't really either; not for Madarao anyway. -------- I hope that you enjoyed Madarao if you came here. And I hope that you enjoyed my reports and found them to be useful. The daily reports will be back for next season of course. -------- In early May we will be posting an 'end of season' look back and wrap-up report on each of the Now reports on SnowJapan, including this one. So see you again in early May for that wrap-up. --- ----- Remember, if you are still up for it there are ski resorts in nearby Myoko, Nozawa and Shiga Kogen that plan to remain open through until early May. - Hakuba Now: Sunday 31st March 2019
Independent snow and weather reporting from the Hakuba region of Nagano New snowfall at base 4cm Snowfall at base this season 399cm Posted on Sunday 31st March 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Hakuba Now report can be found here . Good morning from Hakuba. Snow! Yes, it's snowing. There are some almost comically large snow depth increases and numbers being reported by the Hakuba Happo-one resort late morning. (I am saying that in a friendly 'sugoi!!' kind of voice). They are reporting 30+cm at base and 50+cm in top areas. (!). Now I do not like to cast doubt on information being reported, but it really is difficult to imagine that much when you consider the 1-3cm that Hakuba Cortina are reporting and the 10cm that Hakuba 47 are reporting from their upper slopes. Along with the few cm that I can report from down by my base measuring point. 30-50cm?! (Perhaps the time difference between the different reported info is making a difference, the 47 and Cortina numbers coming from earlier in the morning?) Unfortunately I am unable to get out on the mountain myself today to go check it all out myself. However much there actually is up there, it is of course totally brilliant to be able to report decent fresh snowfall this morning. What a great end to March! Some ski resorts closing for the season at the end of the day so choices will be thinned down tomorrow. I'll be with you until the end of the season in early May. ----- Hakuba Happo-one Official snow depth: - Kurobishi: 320cm - Usagidaira: 225cm - Nakiyama: 40cm Notes: - Nakiyama South Side open; Shirakaba South Side part open - Other base areas are now closed - Urakuro and Omusubi areas closed - Top areas remain open - Hakuba Happo-one plans to be open until Monday 6th May ----- Hakuba Goryu Official snow depth: - Top: 260cm - Toomi: 130cm - Iimori: 60cm Notes: - Adventure, Snow Diving, Cosmo River, Sunny Way and Straight Whiskey closed for the season - Top areas all open - Hakuba Goryu plans to be open until Monday 6th May ----- Hakuba 47 Official snow depth: - Top: 235cm - Base: 80cm Notes: - All courses are open - Note: Generally the Line D lift usually operates if and when the gondola is not operating - Hakuba 47 plans to be open until Monday 6th May ----- Tsugaike Kogen Official snow depth: - Tsuga-no-mori: 275cm - Han-no-ki: 225cm - Maruyama: 75cm - Shirakaba: 185cm - Champion: 80cm - Oya-no-hara: 35cm - Kane-no-naru-oka: 60cm Notes: - Tsugaike Ropeway is now generally open for spring operations (check for daily operation plans) - All courses apart from Uma-no-se and part of Lower course through the forecast are open - Tsugaike Kogen plans to be open until Monday 6th May ----- Hakuba Cortina Official snow depth: - Top: 215cm - Base: 105cm Notes: - Lifts 1, 2 and 4 are operating - Ikenota, Hieda Forest, Mt Hieda 1, Itadaira and Ipponmatsu open - Hakuba Cortina plans to be open until Sunday 31st March ----- Hakuba Norikura Onsen Official snow depth: - 80cm Notes: - Number 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6 lifts are operating; courses part open - Hakuba Norikura plans to be open until Sunday 31st March ----- Hakuba Valley Kashimayari Official snow depth: - 125cm Notes: - Lifts 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 are operating - About half of the courses are open - Plans to open until 7th April Hakuba Now 2018-2019 season Data as of Sunday 31st March 2019 Total snowfall at base so far 399cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 50 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 33cm (29th January) November 2018 snowfall 0cm December 2018 snowfall 112cm reported on 12 days January 2019 snowfall 207cm reported on 19 days February 2019 snowfall 33cm reported on 11 days March 2019 snowfall 47cm reported on 8 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Hakuba. Sun and temperature may affect the slabs and result in a wide range simultaneous slide. Cracks, up to 3m depth, are hidden under the new snow, beware as they are difficult to see from above. Glide avalanche risk from 1000m elevation is still low, however it is strongly recommended to stay away of the valley bottoms. Thaw at the base of the mountain will progress, beware of collapsing snow-bridges. All gates are scheduled to open. Be well prepared and ask the ski patrol’s advice before stepping our of bounds.
