Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata

New snowfall at base 5cm
Snowfall at base this season 560cm

Posted on Wednesday 3rd April 2019 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here.

Brrrrr... it is a cold winter... April... morning!

There's more snow to report, this time I have 5cm to add to the record. Light snow early on but we expect mostly cloudy skies today.

Still some more snow potential on the forecast as winter refuses to give up grip this year. That will be mixed in with a good amount of clearer sunnier skies and maybe some rain as well (though when it is raining at base it should still be snow higher up).

Parts of the mountain now closed but still quite a big area available with the lifts below still operating.

Official snow depths (as reported by resort):

- Summit area: 115cm

- Paradise area: 160cm

- Chuo area: 160cm

- Utopia area: 180cm

- Uwanodai area: 90cm

- Oomori area: 70cm
