Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 1076cm Posted on Wednesday 16th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. So yesterday we did get some rain in the afternoon but it had thankfully turned into snow by night time and this morning there is new cm of fresh snowfall to report. Kagura are reporting 20cm, Yuzawa Kogen is reporting 10cm, Maiko is reporting 10-20cm and Ishiuchi Maruyama is reporting 5cm... and we measured 8cm for this report. At the moment it is generally cloudy with some light snow falling in places. Temperature is at 0C and it shouldn't be warming up as much as it did yesterday, perhaps to around 2C at most. Possible light snow on and off today and tonight, with the higher change of more significant snow with us tomorrow and around Sunday too which is looking quite promising. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 380cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5cm since last night Official snow depth: 340cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 285cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 300cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 380cm Base: 300cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 345cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 340cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 370cm (top) 260cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 290cm (top) 240cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 305cm Yuzawa Kogen Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 360cm (top) 240cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 315cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Wednesday 16th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1076cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 52 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 274cm reported on 12 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 1079cm Posted on Thursday 17th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Snow has started to fall this morning and there's just about 3cm so far as of 7:45am. We are due snow through the day, light to moderate and then perhaps some heavier snow overnight into tomorrow. There's also some decent snowfall on the forecast for Sunday into early week and perhaps even beyond. That looks promising. The snow has slowed down this last 7-10 days, but hopefully we still have some decent numbers ahead of us... though it may well be the last 'big snow' of the season. Hopefully not, of course! • Yuzawa Now: Friday 18th February 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 16cm Snowfall at base this season 1095cm Posted on Friday 18th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Yesterday we had a period when there was quite a lot of blue sky and sunshine; light snow at other times. It was rather mixed weather. Apparently areas to the north of our region got unexpected amounts of snowfall. So the forecast was off there, and it feels like the overnight was off a bit too. We were expecting quite a lot of snow and while Kagura is actually reporting 40cm, down in town there has been less than expected. This morning Maiko Snow Resort is reporting 10-20cm and Ishiuchi Maruyama earlier on was reporting 10cm. It is snowing now so hopefully we will get some more today. Heavier snow once again is there on the forecast for Sunday onwards for the first half of the coming week. Hopefully that forecast will turn out to be spot on! There's some windy conditions messing around with ski area operations this morning: Kagura: The Tashiro Area is closed for the day and Kagura is open up to the gondola at the start of the day. Naeba: The Number 2 gondola and top areas closed at the start of the day. Yuzawa Kogen: The top area is closed. GALA Yuzawa and other ski areas appear to be opening as planned. The forecast for Saturday, as it currently now, is for generally cloudy skies and mild temperatures. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 400cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm since last night Official snow depth: 340cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 290cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 300cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 40cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 380cm Base: 300cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 355cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10-20cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 345cm (top) 230cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 370cm (top) 260cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 290cm (top) 240cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 360cm (top) 240cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 250cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 18th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1095cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 54 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 293cm reported on 14 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Again, not the snow we thought we were going to get yesterday. Just a few cm really to add since yesterday morning and during the day yesterday. This morning we have cloudy skies over the region and it is due to be a mild day, perhaps even warming up to around 5C later this afternoon. It feels like we are going to get at least some blue skies and sunshine this morning. That exciting forecast of much snowfall from tomorrow through until around Wednesday is still there. If it's spot on, we're on for a lot. The very top Kagura Number 5 Romance lift (at Kagura) has usually been open from 9:30am until 12:00pm on weekdays and from 9:00am on weekends and holidays. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It feels like mid winter again! After the disappointing lack of snow over the last few days it did start snowing properly yesterday in the afternoon. Kagura aren't reporting a snowfall number (which often means it's big!), Maiko are saying up to 40cm and Ishiuchi Maruyama are reporting 30cm early morning. Our measuring point has just measured 40cm at 8:30am. It's quite windy too, especially higher up, and because of that the following ski areas have announced that they will be closed for the day: Kagura GALA Yuzawa The Ropeway and top area of Yuzawa Kogen and the Prince Number 2 gondola at Naeba are also closed, so only the lower areas open at those ski areas. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We start today with clear blue skies again. Yesterday it warmed up to around 9C in town and today we expect it to be warmer. Perhaps as high as 14C. (Yikes). It might get windy(er) later on today, but hopefully won't affect any ski operations. Tomorrow (which is a national holiday) won't be as warm, though looking further ahead there's still a somewhat worrying lack of snowmen and snowflakes lined up on all the forecasts. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 64cm Snowfall at base this season 1262cm Posted on Wednesday 23rd February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We have had another huge amount of new snowfall again over the last 24 hours. By 6pm yesterday there was 22cm on our measuring point and this morning there is another 42cm on there. Total of 64cm. Kagura is reporting 70cm this morning. Both Maiko and Ishiuchi Maruyama are reporting 50cm. There's tons of snow everywhere you look and some of the snow walls around town now over 4m tall. Wind doesn't seem to be a problem this morning but visibility is limited, so some extra care is recommended today. There will be some deep snow out there. Due to the snowfall the South Area closed at GALA Yuzawa and the Tashiro Area at Kagura are closed. Yuzawa Kogen seems to be opening, as are other ski areas... but there may well be some delays and some restrictions (lifts/courses). Snowfall should get less during the day today and perhaps into tomorrow. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 450cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 50cm since last night Official snow depth: 380cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 375cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 340cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 70cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 400cm Base: 320cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 410cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 50+cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 450cm (top) 310cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 390cm (top) 300cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 260cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 400cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 420cm (top) 300cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 350cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 350cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Wednesday 23rd February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1262cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 58 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 460 cm reported on 18 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 34cm Snowfall at base this season 1296cm Posted on Thursday 24th February 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Another 15+cm during the day yesterday and another 18cm this morning on top of that. Kagura is reporting another 50cm since yesterday. The snow these last few days has been relentless. But it seems that it is coming to a stop today. As of 7:30am there are actually some blue skies appearing to the north and the remaining snowfall is just light. It feels quite bright. Check out the image from Yuzawa Kogen below, looking north. We might get some light snow continuing on and off, or maybe just increasingly clearer skies. It does look like beyond today generally clearer weather is forecast along with some milder/warmer conditions ahead of us. People are thinking that this last big snowfall will probably have been the last main event of this season. Just some regular top-ups from now would be just fine. (Locals getting very tired limbs). Haven't had time to have a good look back at how this compares to other seasons yet, but having such huge amounts of snow and these massive snow walls at the end of February feels... different. Almost 13m of snowfall has been reported so far. A bit more snowfall and it will be the most that we have ever observed and recorded in our Yuzawa Now reports since keeping the full records in 2012. There will be time to look back and reflect soon - and some new ways to look at the information - on the upcoming new site. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 450cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm since last night Official snow depth: 480cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 375cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 340cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 50cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 400cm Base: 320cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 410cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10-20cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 460cm (top) 320cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 390cm (top) 300cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 260cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 430cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 420cm (top) 300cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 350cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 350cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Thursday 24th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1296cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 59 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 494cm reported on 19 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa. There was a mix of strange weather going on yesterday. One minute it was snowing, the next suddenly some blue skies and sunshine. And then back to some light snow again, though not the kind of snowfall where the cms quickly pile up. By the mid afternoon roads were clear and kind of dry. This morning we start with mostly cloudy skies but there's some blue sky around. It's a cold start but it will warm up to around +2C later on. For those visiting over the weekend, the forecasts for tomorrow are a sunny start to the day and mild temperatures. It might even get to be as warm as 6-7C in town in the afternoon. On Sunday there might be some precipitation at times - and it may turn out to be rain. Hopefully not, of course. There's some milder weather due next week as well. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Well, we did get some rain yesterday though it was wet snow at higher elevations. And this morning there was even a thin layer of snow, just about allowing me to add 1cm to this report. Kagura are reporting 10cm of fresh snow. The sun is out again this morning and it is remaining quite mild. There are a few small clouds here and there, but it is almost clear. (The clouds on the Maiko image below have cleared by now). Today should see the warmth of around 7C in town. It's the last day of February already. Kind of hard to believe. But what a February it has been. Click on the Season archives tab above to see how we have now reported 1298cm of snowfall this season, with 495cm of that falling in February. The most snowfall in one report this season was 101cm on 6th February. And we reported snowfall at base on 21 days in February (and 61 days so far this season). You can find the same data for each season - dating back to 2012-2013 - using the links at the bottom of all the Now reports. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 460cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm since last night Official snow depth: 400cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 330cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 370cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 450cm Base: 350cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 380cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 400cm (top) 250cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 400cm (top) 325cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 260cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 365cm Yuzawa Kogen Official snow depth: 450cm (top) 300cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 360cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 340cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Monday 28th February 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1298cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 61 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 496cm reported on 21 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Friday 4th March 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 6cm Snowfall at base this season 1304cm Posted on Friday 4th March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. We had some rain yesterday but it turned into snow. Yuzawa Kogen and Ishiuchi are both reporting 10cm of fresh this morning, Maiko is reporting 5-10cm and Kagura are reporting 20cm, so that sounds good. A cloudy start to the morning but there is some blue sky to the north in the Minamiuonuma valley and the forecast is for clearer skies. We are still expecting snow on Sunday when it will get back to being quite cold, and maybe later tomorrow too (though that might also start with rain down in town). Will be interesting to see how much snow falls on Sunday. ----- Well, that was quick! The Kagura Area of Kagura is back open this morning. Good news is good! With that 20cm of fresh snowfall they are reporting, conditions should be good up there too. ----- Following on from the news that NASPA Ski Garden and Yuzawa Nakazato have extended their seasons into early April, we will soon add all of the planned closing dates of the ski areas to the reports. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 440cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm since last night Official snow depth: 360cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 315cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 350cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 20cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 450cm Base: 350cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 370cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 390cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 380cm (top) 290cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 260cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Kogen Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 400cm (top) 250cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 350cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 330cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Friday 4th March 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1304cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 62 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 496cm reported on 21 days March 2022 snowfall 6cm reported on 1 day Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa. • Yuzawa Now: Sunday 6th March 2022

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Yuzawa & Minamiuonuma region of Niigata New snowfall at base 8cm Snowfall at base this season 1312cm Posted on Sunday 6th March 2022 This is an archived report. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was warm yesterday and more than a few people mentioned some itchy eyes... yellow sand or some early hayfever? We got rained on later in the day, but happily it did turn into snow overnight. This morning Kagura and Ishiuchi Maruyama are reporting 10cm of fresh snowfall, while Maiko reports 5-10cm. Strong winds are forecast for today along with more snow and unfortunately that means that some ski areas are closed or part closed: GALA Yuzawa is not going to be open at all today. The Tashiro Area of Kagura is closed and the central Kagura operations are limited. Mitsumata Ropeway is open. The Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway and top area is closed. The Gondola at Maiko Snow Resort is also closed and the lifts going to the top area might not open. Things should calm down by tomorrow. The good thing out of this is we might get a decent amount of fresh snow by tomorrow morning. Let's see... From Tuesday onwards there's quite a lot of clearer weather and warmth shown on the forecasts. ----- GALA Yuzawa Official snow depth: 430cm Ishiuchi Maruyama Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm since last night Official snow depth: 350cm Iwappara Official snow depth: 305cm Joetsu Kokusai Official snow depth: 340cm Kagura Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 10cm since yesterday Official snow depth: Top: 450cm Base: 350cm Kandatsu Snow Resort Official snow depth: 350cm Maiko Snow Resort Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 5-10cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 370cm (top) 220cm (lower) Muikamachi Hakkaisan Official snow depth: 380cm (top) 290cm (base) Naeba Official snow depth: 310cm (top) 260cm (base) NASPA Ski Garden Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Kogen Reported snowfall (by the ski area): 0cm (since last night) Official snow depth: 400cm (top) 250cm (base) Yuzawa Nakazato Snow Resort Official snow depth: 340cm Yuzawa Park Official snow depth: 320cm Yuzawa Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Sunday 6th March 2022 Total snowfall at base so far 1312cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 63 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 101cm (6th February) November 2021 snowfall 10cm reported on 2 days December 2021 snowfall 311cm reported on 14 days January 2022 snowfall 481cm reported on 24 days February 2022 snowfall 496cm reported on 21 days March 2022 snowfall 14cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Yuzawa.
