The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Good morning from Yuzawa and welcome to the weekend. This morning Kagura is reporting 15cm of snowfall, and that's how much was measured down at town level this morning (with probably all of that arriving by last night). Important note: some of the 'snowfall numbers' reported from ski areas in the list below are from last night, rather than over 24 hours. And some of them aren't totally clear on that point. It does make it confusing at times and unfortunately can't do anything about that. Just to be clear, our own observed snowfall numbers are always 24 hours/since the last report. Anyway, we are starting the weekend with cloudy overcast grey clouds. Some forecasts still promise the chance of clearer skies today, so we might get some of that... and there's definitely a good chance of that tomorrow along with slightly milder conditions. Tashiro is back open today. But the Dragondola is still closed (for the moment, that's about all we know on that score). The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Nice weather yesterday and while it was a bit milder... not too much. Some light snow overnight and Kagura is reporting 3cm, Maiko reporting 4cm, Ishiuchi reporting 0cm. Kagura is also reporting windy conditions on the mountain along with poor visibility. At 8am it is 0C in town. Tomorrow will probably be sunny again - next decent snow due from Wednesday night. From today, the Buggy lift connecting GALA Yuzawa with Ishiuchi Maruyama will be open. And from Saturday (29th January) the Ropeway connecting GALA Yuzawa with Yuzawa Kogen will also open. Some spots of rain yesterday evening in places, it's still relatively mild but thankfully light snow is falling this morning with. There's a dusting (and slightly more in places) early on. Local forecasts say there might be up to 5cm by 6pm this evening and snow clouds due to remain tomorrow. Quick bit of news - the Dragondola connecting Naeba and the Tashiro Area of Kagura will re-open from tomorrow (Friday 28th January). The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Snow is falling again this morning. At the time of writing, just measured 8cm of it. Earlier this morning, Kagura was reporting 10cm, Maiko reporting 5cm and Ishiuchi Maruyama reporting 3cm as of 7am. Hopefully we will get more cm today. It's not particularly cold this morning, and temps will probably hover around 0C through the day. A break in the snow is currently forecast for tomorrow morning but it should be back by night time again and snowing on Sunday. Our famous snow walls by the side of roads around town that often build up to impressive heights with heavy snowfall have become less high over these last few days with the milder weather and no fresh snowfall, so it'll be good to see them get built up again. And fresh snow makes then nice and white too. They do feel like part of the package here in Yuzawa. The Dragondola lift is re-opening today, once again connecting Naeba with the Tashiro Area of Kagura. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing for a large part of yesterday, though not the full-on kind that has the cm piling up. With more overnight, we just measured 25cm of new snowfall since yesterday morning. Kagura are reporting 30cm with ski areas around the town area reporting up to 20cm since last night. So there should be a good new fresh layer out there pretty much everywhere this morning. Always good to see, and hopefully there is more incoming over the next few days. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There was snow on and off during yesterday and this morning the snow is still falling, and 17cm has just been measured since yesterday morning in town. The week ahead should be bringing us regular snow with some clearing of the clouds in between. Perhaps the best chance of some heavy dumpage is around Tuesday night. The Ropeway connecting GALA Yuzawa and Yuzawa Kogen is now open. All ski areas in the area are opening as planned this morning. The popular ones were quite busy yesterday. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It was snowing for large parts of yesterday, though it wasn't the kind of snowfall that gave us a large amount of new snow. Just over 10cm measured early this morning. Ski areas around town will probably have about that much, and Kagura higher up is reporting 30cm this morning. It is still snowing lightly this morning. Currently -3C and it should be staying under (or about) freezing point during the day today. There's quite a lot of snow lined up on the forecast for this week as well, even if we might see some clearer skies in the morning tomorrow. Looks like we should be starting February in pretty good shape. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. There was more snow during the day yesterday, but, again, it didn't amount to much in terms of new cm. I'm happy to report that there has been a fair bit overnight though. Ishiuchi Maruyama and Maiko are both reporting 20cm since last night and Hakkaisan is reporting 15cm. We have just measured 24cm (since yesterday) for this mornings town base report. It feels like the weather is changing before our eyes this morning. There has been lots of cloud around early morning but there are breaks in the cloud, with increasing blue sky and sun too. More snow is due before the end of the day though, and the forecast is also looking good for regular snow right through into next week. In particular some moderate to heavy snowfall at the weekend. ----- Yesterday the Kagura Gondola had to stop due to wind and only the parts of that ski area was open. This morning it looks like the Kagura Gondola is down for the whole day - machine maintenance being the official reason. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. The snow started up again yesterday evening and this morning there's another 23cm of fresh snow. Ski areas that report also mentioning similar numbers. It's still snowing and we are expecting it to continue, though perhaps lighter. Snow remains on the forecast over the coming days though so we are going to get regular refreshes and any sign of the sun will probably be short-lived. Currently -1C in town. Wind is stopping Kagura from fully opening this morning but both the Mitsumata and Tashiro Ropeways are open. Early on it's the main 'Kagura Area' that is not opening. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. It's snowing this morning and there has been 5cm since the last report. Kagura is this morning reporting 10cm (and able to be open as normal this morning). We have had some regular snow over the last week or so, though the roads have been able to remain largely clear and there aren't any of those large icicles hanging from the houses that there were a month ago, so it kind of feels a bit different. That's just an observation - decent regular snowfall is, of course, great, and long may it continue. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. Moderate snow this morning and another 19cm of snow to report from town level since the last report. Interesting to see Yuzawa Kogen report 30cm of new snowfall; others reporting 10cm. We are still due lots of snow over the weekend, both on Saturday and Sunday, and it may be a bit windy too so if you plan on being here be prepared. Beyond that perhaps we'll get a period of clearer skies in the middle of next week. I just noticed that the total snowfall for the season so far (observed by us at town level) is now standing at 873cm. The latest Yuzawa Now report can be found here. This morning feels much colder and mid-winter like than the last run of days. And we have just measured 28cm of snowfall with much more due throughout the day today and tomorrow. It's really coming down at the moment so piling up quickly. It looks like there has just been a snow slide over at Kagura which is causing the connection between Kagura and Tashiro to be closed. The Area 51s Park at Mitsumata is also closed. Over at Yuzawa Kogen, the downhill course is closed due to avalanche risk. From what we can tell other ski areas are open as planned this morning. There's some risky conditions today with more of the same due tomorrow.
