Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 3cm Snowfall at base this season 5cm Posted on Wednesday 24th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Morning. And yes, there is more snow to report this morning. It feels colder than it has been, the snow has continued - and I have 3cm to add to the report. It is quite windy and snowing at the moment and we should be getting more over the next few days. Lets hope it steps up a gear. I am going to have some celebration toast now. Not that I need a special event for such a thing, of course, but it feels exciting to have snow on the ground. ----- Planned opening dates: Niseko Village: Friday 3rd December 2021 Niseko Annupuri: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Grand Hirafu: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Hanazono: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Moiwa: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Now 2021-2022 season Data as of Wednesday 24th November 2021 Total snowfall at base so far 5cm Number of days snowfall observed at base 2 days Most snowfall observed in 1 day 3cm (24th November) November 2021 snowfall 5cm reported on 2 days Previous report Next report All snowfall data presented on this page is the snowfall measured and observed at base/town level by our reporter based in Kutchan/Niseko. Independent snow and weather reporting from the Zao region of Yamagata New snowfall at base 15cm Snowfall at base this season 15cm Posted on Wednesday 24th November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Zao Now report can be found here . It's the last week of November and it is snowing. Stop Press! It is chucking it down with at least 10cms last night and a further 5cm already this morning. This is set to continue into the weekend. It seems that a similar situation is being experienced for the rest of us Up North so exciting to see the slopes all white after close on 7 months (or is this just a test run for the snow gods until the season starts in mid-December?!). In any event, let's hope that this is a good sign of things to come and a great season (and not one peaking early!). FYI, by all accounts, bookings are coming in rapidly for the New Year break so, if you are intending to come to Zao over that period, best hurry and secure the place you want - albeit, with the foreign traffic still not permitted to enter Japan, there will be plenty of places available. The latest Furano Now report can be found here . Furano Ski Resort has a tentative opening date of Saturday 20 November. Yesterday there were a few bursts of snow flakes and this morning the Kitanomine village had a light dusting of snow that settled on cars. The mountain itself also got more of dusting than a true snowfall, and significantly more will be needed before opening. The good news is that more snow is forecast at high elevations during the week. At town level this is likely to be rain. Winter has started! • Shiga Kogen Now: Tuesday 2nd November 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Shiga Kogen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 7cm Snowfall at base this season 7cm Posted on Tuesday 2nd November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Shiga Kogen Now report can be found here . Good morning! Welcome back to Shiga Kogen Now. I am not actually in Shiga Kogen myself at the moment - circumstance dictates that I will there from the end of November. There has actually already been some snowfall in Shiga Kogen, around 23rd October. The slopes are bare this morning apart from a few bits that remain in some of the higher areas. (The snow reported in this report is from that time, not in the last 24 hours). Regarding ski area opening dates: With the help of some friendly snow making machines, Yokoteyama/Shibutoge is going to try and open this coming Saturday 6th November and Kumanoyu plans to open from 12th November. They are the particularly early ones and there is of course a fair chance that those plans will be delayed. (There does not seem to be natural snow on the horizon over the next few days). Most of the ski areas in Shiga Kogen open in the month of December. Please check out the archive reports here to get an idea of when things usually get going. Anyway, I will be back with you at the end of the month and my daily reports starting in December. I will also try to update again before then, especially if and when there is snow to report. In the meantime, take care and see you soon! Independent snow and weather reporting from the Nozawa Onsen region of Nagano New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 0cm Posted on Tuesday 2nd November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Nozawa Now report can be found here . Hello from Nozawa! It's November, which means that I am able to say... Nozawa Onsen plans to open later this month! Yes, the planned opening date for the 2021-2022 season is Saturday 27th November, so it is less than four weeks away. The season usually begins with a limited opening of upper areas and I recommend you take a look back at archive reports to see how things have happened in recent years. The upper areas of mountains in northern Nagano have already seen their first snowfall of the season and we have had some suitably colder conditions as well, after that very hot summer. Everyone is hoping that this upcoming season will be brighter and busier, though of course the international borders of Japan still remain closed for tourism. It would be good to hear encouraging good news on that front, but for the moment we all just need to wait and see how it plays out. Things do seem to generally getting more positive though. Please let that continue. I will post again before the season begins with news of snowfall, and then cover the season once again once it gets started. • Niseko Now: Monday 1st November 2021

Independent snow and weather reporting from the Niseko region of Hokkaido New snowfall at base 0cm Snowfall at base this season 0cm Posted on Monday 1st November 2021 This is an archived report. The latest Niseko Now report can be found here Hello and good afternoon from Niseko. It has been a while hasn't it. I hope that you and yours are keeping well. It's November already and I am now in the process of coming out of my hibernation and starting to get excited about the upcoming winter season. The summer has been hot, sometimes really hot even up here in Hokkaido. Japan hosted the Olympics - I'll refrain from commenting on that - and got itself quite alarmed at the biggest wave of COVID cases around the same time over summer, but happily things seem to have really calmed down now. The confirmed case numbers are way back down and everyone is hoping that they will stay that way. Fingers crossed we really are past the worst of it now. Japan seems to be gradually getting back to normal... just with masks. The international borders remain closed to tourists from overseas. Other countries may well be starting to open up to international travel, but people wanting to visit Japan are going to have to wait until the rules on the Japanese side ease off. When will that happen? Right now, that remains an unknown. I think it's fair enough to say that most businesses are realistically thinking that it will be next season (2022-2023) before foreign visitors are welcomed back, at least in a major way. For winter sports, anyway. We will see. Whatever happens in that respect, I intend to be here reporting to you from Niseko over the upcoming 2021-2022 winter season. Talking of which, here are the official planned opening dates of the ski areas on the mountain: Planned opening dates: Niseko Village: Friday 3rd December 2021 Niseko Annupuri: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Grand Hirafu: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Hanazono: Saturday 4th December 2021 Niseko Moiwa: Saturday 4th December 2021 The first snow on the higher elevations was spotted a few weeks ago in the middle of the month. It was good to have some really cold conditions in October. Lets hope we get a really good season of snow. OK, that's it for the moment. I will be back before the season starts with some updates and news about snow. There are some changes on the horizon coming to SnowJapan, but it's not really for me to tell you about those. It's something else to look forward to in the coming months. :) See you soon.
